Lately there have been a lot of things in the media and on Facebook concerning parents that make their children wear sandwich boards telling of their misdeeds. What is your take on this?

I was raised with spankings and other such/similiar punishments. I am 41 years old. Back then the kids did not seem to be as self centered, thoughtless or criminal. You never heard of school shootings like link (Columbine) or even mass shootings at places of work link

Do you feel that the government (local and federal) have contributed to this by making it so that you can not discipline your own children without the fear of being thrown in to prison?

Do you spank your children or were you spanked as a child? If so do you think that it helped you learn or be a better person or that is abusive regardless of how or what is done.

I am not referring to beating a child to death or breaking of bones and deep tissue bruising. I am referring to an open hand slap upon the buttocks (bare or clothed).

Seems to me that time-out has not done much good.

For me, I wouldn't want to beat my kids or hurt them in any way, but thinking about it if they were being really disrespectful (and I'm talking about as a child, maybe like younger than grade 4) they might need to be spanked on the bottom (lol I like that word :P) a bit. But for the most part I wouldn't wanna hurt them in any way, and hopefully it would never even come to being spanked, because I think that with good parenting where you're firm and show that you need respect while not actually being aggressive or anything, that's all you need to raise great kids (as long as you make sure to spend time with them and teach them morals and values like how to work hard and have fun too... stuff like that :P).
