I've never made a person nervous in my life -- not to my knowledge anyhow. I'm very easy going and chat people up without too much trouble.

I was sitting at the counter area of my favorite restaurant and one of the guys who works there kept coming up to me to say hi, chat me up, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary for me at that place. He hugged and kissed me (on the cheek) when I came in, but that's pretty standard for the two senior people and the actual proprietors. We all know each other as friends for about two years now. Anyway, he bumped into my seat and said "Oh, sorry." "No you're not." I joked. He came back and leaned in. "No...I'm really not." It set my blood boiling for a sec, but I laughed it off. "Mmm." he said, standing there a sec to take in my outfit. "You went to work like that? You're trying to give somebody a heart-attack or something?" he joked. There was definitely a lot of intense banter going on, but I don't take it seriously because he doesn't really take it anywhere. Later on, he started fumbling a little. "What's going on with you today?" I asked him. "IDK. You're making me nervous."

A red flag went up. Why?

One morning I was there and a woman (9.5/10 on the Hot Floozy Richter Scale) strutted in. The guy gave her that head-to-toe scantron look, taking in the choppy bottle blond hair, the frosty pink lipgloss, the black pleather cami, the painted-on denim capris, plastic nails (long enough to render her finger useless for picking anything up), the tattoos on her calves, and her 5" platform wedges. He ran to help her with everything she needed. When she left we all realized he'd been holding his breath. He blinked and exhaled. "Man, she is EXACTLY my type. She makes me nervous just walking into the place!"

So of course I'm nothing like this woman. I'm a total nerd. Looks-wise, I'm plain (barely mascara, clear gloss, short nails, polished) with a caramel Farrah Fawcett shag, a sort of avant-guard dress-code, snug jeans/skirts (weather permitting), and 2"-3" heels. Certainly nothing too flashy or obvious IMO.

While I DOUBT he's into me -- and I know he's dating a lot of different people now to get over his recent separation -- I wonder why he said such things to me and whether I should be concerned.

It's complicated and silly but it happens almost every time I go out and if I can understand it I can laugh it off,maybe alter my own behavior .Sometimes it ruins my day or my walk ,however mature I am or how I try to rationalize it or ignore it. It's so frustratingly bizarre.

Why do girls so this?

When walking with a guy, often holding his hand they either :

insult me/comment on my looks

or

stare me down, often stopping their boyfriend in his tracks in the middle of my path to make out with him?

Every so often, a girl will follow me around trying to strike up a conversation, usually if I am shopping in a market.Those times, I assume he's her brother and she's playing ' wing man'.

I get this from teen girls and women who are dressed like businesswomen in their 30/40s.

am quiet and low key, I like to go for walks to relax after working on household chores or for a coffee in the evening. I 'live in' jeans and a tee shirt (both clean,no holes) , I wear no make up, my BMI is 18 so I'm not skinny or fat ,I am flat chested and far from a model or a slut. I wear my hair short bobbed. I have been told maybe 10 times in my Life that I am pretty and maybe as many that I am ugly.

When I walk, I am looking at the beautiful old architecture and lots of old trees and flowers,it's a lovely place to live- which is part of why this behavior from people confuses me. Sometimes, in a good mood, I am smiling at people,sometimes I look up to see a girl staring me down as she and her boyfriend approach or she moves him into my path and stands there with him.

The city is mixed classes,races,ages,nationalities- very diverse. It is also nice and homey, often described by the locals as a 'town' . It's also a 'city' , a big center for commerce and government with lots of tourists.
