I had an ex, we were together for 1.5 years, the .5 long distance because I moved to another country.

I recently got close with one of his friends - I've know the guy from my ex, and he's a really good guy. We share the same values, and he has the characteristics I want in a boyfriend (honesty, humor, etc.)

We got really close really quick, even though we were long distance. We chatted all day, snap chatted, and Skyped (up to an hour). He said things like "You're beautiful" and "You make me happy too" and made plans for us to go somewhere when we got back, wherever I wanted, anytime I wanted.

Suddenly he tells me that we can't chat anymore, because he's busy for a national exam coming up, we're long distance, and my ex.

I asked him about how he felt about us and he said to me "I like you, but as a friend, not a girlfriend. I'm so so sorry if I've seemed like I'm playing with you. I'm telling you while we haven't gone too far. I'm confused, it's my fault. I know your ex isn't good for you, but at the moment, I'm not good for you either, I can't care for others and we're long distance. I really want us to be friends and not enemies" but he also said "I've never been this close with a girl, and I've never felt this comfortable with a girl"

I sent him a birthday present that's still on the way from when we were close.
I made him a digital portrait, which he made his profile picture and then his sister and her friend commented saying "wink wink you know that i know" and he told his sister "why did you tell?" my ex also commented saying "hey your girlfriend is looking for you" and he coldly brushed him off (he doesn't have girlfriend)

We chat sometimes, usually I initiate but he has too, he opens up about his day & feelings, but it's rarer and it's cut off suddenly and hot and cold, but we've just made plans to have lunch together and to have him teach me how to play the ukulele.

I don't get how he feels - please help me. Sorry for the long post!

Then suddenly he tells me that he can't chat with me anymore, and that he's confused because:
1. It's long distance
2. He knows my ex
3. He has a really crucial national exam coming up April next year.
He said that I'm the first girl that's made him confused like this, and that I make him really comfortable - he even said he's never been this close with a girl.

Then when I asked him how he felt about us, he said that "I like you, but as a friend, not a girlfriend. I'm so so sorry if I've seemed like I'm playing with you. So I've known this guy for 6 years, we met initially it started out with everything that it shouldn't have but an innocent kiss and then we both just stayed friends, and I got a boyfriend he got a girlfriend. Then, I got a new boyfriend and he dumped his girlfriend or something, and he didn't like my boyfriend and I caught him smelling me once, like, my neck. Getting too close, he didn't deny it (did later tho) when I accused him & my mutual friends were really not cool with him hanging around because he was all over me and I never really noticed. Then throughout the years we evolved into more of a best friend relationship so I thought, but he never dated anyone again despite being very attractive. When I got engaged he picked up and moved & recently blew me off when he was supposed to visit. He didn't even call to say "Sorry I can't visit." He was pretty sure that I was going to stop being friends with him, & he was right I was going to tell him to his face potentially depending on the situation, I couldn't end a friendship over the phone, in text or email that was that long & personal. He had yelled at me on my birthday & called me a spiteful b word, then claimed he didn't even know it was my birthday even though I mentioned it in a countdown to him every day that week because I was turning 25 so it was a big deal. He apologized, got drunk the next day sent sexy pics with like here's a present bday girl ;) or something like that. I thought people do stupid things they don't mean when they're drunk but according to studies I read online, people mean that stuff. He told me I was the closest thing to romantic love he ever had, he left the STATE right after I told him I got engaged, asked why didn't -I- the woman pursue him? Like he was so special. Then he blocked my fiance on Facebook but didn't block me, we usually make up by now & I really have forgiven him but the question is -can this be fixed-? If he subconsciously 'loves' me it's kinder to just stop?
