I forgot to give my girlfriend's birthday gift on her birthday. Can I give her today and what should I say to her?

I was really overloaded with my work and althought I bought her present a week ago I forgot to give it to her yesterday.
I am really in deep trouble I know. How can I make it up to her and what should I say?

Did you forget that it was her birthday, too?
If you simply forgot her present, just say that you accidentally left it at home because of how stressed you've been lately. She'll understand and be okay with that, especially if you do something sweet like get her flowers or something to go with it.
If you forgot that it was her birthday yesterday, you're in a lot more trouble. You'll have to really try to get her to forgive that.

The only thing you can do is be honest and give her the present add in some flowers and a fancy dinner and she will get over it soon enough but expect it to come up in future arguments girls never forget

After dinner during dancing, you could confess and be easily forgiven if she's feeling very special; but tell her how your work problem will change in time, it's all for her/your future

I realize that this question is long past by now, but just for the sake of mentioning it, saying it's an April fool's joke is really not likely to help you out in this type of situation. Forgetting about your significant other's birthday is a really inappropriate "joke". Pretending that's what happened is not going to get you out of anything, let me tell you! Better to just go with the truth and say you were busy and overwhelmed and it slipped your mind.
