Girlfriend didn't get me anything for my birthday?

So my birthday was today, and my girlfriend of 6 months didn't get me anything. She remembered it was my birthday and even told me she knew what she was going to get me. Today we met up, she gave me a hug and a kiss, and told me she was sorry she forgot to get me the thing she was talking about because she was busy with school as well as a musical she is taking part in. I'm cool with it and I tell her that she can just give it to me whenever. She responded with "Nah, I don't want to give you a late present." So I guess her solution is to just not give me anything at all... I'm really surprised because she gave me something really special for Christmas and Valentine's day, but not for my birthday of all days. Do some girls just not really care about gift giving in general? Her birthday is in 2 weeks and I'm really considering just not getting her anything.

I wouldn’t just not get her something for her birthday. She was the asshole here, not you. But I would be honest with how that move made you feel, yknow? “I felt unappreciated and hurt that you didn’t get me anything. It’s not about the gift, but about the effort.” She could’ve just taken you on a date and it would be enough to leave you feeling more whole and cared for. Sometimes these dates don’t even cost money. (Which by the way, may be the reason she ‘forgot’ and is too embarrassed to say. Either way she could’ve done something.)

You should be honest about how that made you feel. Some people love gifts and some people don’t care much about them. Don’t be passive aggressive about issues that will only grow a toxic wedge into your relationship. Communicate with her and try to be unnaccusing about it.

I think you're just supposed to accept what she said and go on with your life. If you retaliate by not getting her a present all hell will break loose and you may lose the girlfriend. That said, take careful note of what she did here and take careful note of exactly how unimportant you are to her.

Fuck that. She couldn’t even get you a card? My ex never got me any gifts either, even on holidays like Christmas. Not that gifts are really important but I think it’s meaningful and shows someone cares.
