I have recently started dating a friend's ex (for which my friend has disowned me, but that's her problem).

Just curious - for those of you who have done this, did it work out? Was it worth it? What social obstacles did you have to overcome? How did it end?

People who marry the love of their life and end up happy are very fortunate, but marriage in itself is a contract and really an organized institution to create a family and all,and there is no guarantee that we will marry someone we are madly in love with, or ever find "the love of our life".

Say you were a person who did want to get married and have family one day.

Would you rather:

A- find the love of your life, your soul mate, but for whatever reason you know the two of you can't get married, and you can only have a long term relationship, you have to give up marriage and kids. Say it is a case where your parents would disown you or something if you married him/her and therefore you would have to sacrifice marriage and family, your lifelong goals, to be with this person, so your relationship can never truly progress to where you want it as you grow older and watch your friends have their own families.

B-Be able to have a stable marriage and family, and while your partner is okay and a satisfying spouse you never feel so happy and crazy in love with the other person. It is an arrangement and it works out, there just isn't that crazy in love passion you always dreamed about having a soul mate.

Don't pick A and say "I'd marry him/her and screw my family". That's not an option here. I made it that way because this way since they aren't married and having a family but just staying together as boyfriend and girlfriend, the family can't make as big of a fuss.
