Ill be 19 in 6 months but I feel my dad isn't okay with certain things & won't give me permission to.

For example, I brought up taking a vacation this summer he seemed protective and overly nosy about it like I needed permission to go. Anytime I want to go anywhere I have to ask him, especially because I dont have my license.

Then for spring break I wanted to meet this guy I've known for over a year at a very popular mall so it's pretty safe then have my dad drop/pick me up, I had the guys name and address in case anything happened. Long story short he wasn't very open to it & suggested I take someone with me. That's literally impossible I dont have friends and my siblings are way older than me have work/kids plus they never show up to anything.

I understand I still live at home and he supports me, but why do I need permission to go out or meet people? He seems to think meeting people while I'm out is safer which is essentially the same thing I still don't know them either.

I want to get out, go to parties, make friends and enjoy my life a little but it's hard when he reacts to it like that.. what am I supposed to do? I can't just go unless I uber or have a ride, then I'd have to tell him where/how long which I get and want to do but it's uncomfortable when it's a party, I'm staying out or to meet a guy I might be intimate with you know. I don't know how he feels about me doing those things my mom was the hands on parent till 14 then she passed away. I've already been sheltered enough it's time for me to go out.

My boyfriend and I are both latinos but I'm a bit more westernized than him. We are going to get married in the near future.

A couple things that we differ:
- He likes the child to be named after the parents while I liked either creative or English names (no Spanish names as first names and it can't be our names)
- He still believes in old school (but doesn't limit himself into that) while I'm a creative punishments and natural consequences believer
- Claims he will be protective if we had a girl and will teach her to wait till marriage meanwhile I would be happy if my child was in a healthy relationship (not necessarily marriage) and have an discussion with him/her about protective sex and the consequences... same treatment, no double standard

So far the first topic yesterday was about the name selection. We agreed that if it's a boy, he will have an English name and he will share his name in his midde name. The others, it wasn't discussed too much and no middle ground has been established yet.

If I ever become a parent, I'll stick towards the middle ground... not super overprotective ("oh well, you can't never go to parties" or "who the hell is trying to date you") nor liberal type (return back home at 3am, whatever).

My mother was raised by her grandparents mainly. It was really her grandmother that was super overprotective that my mother had to at times lie about even hanging out with a female friend. She also wasn't allow to go to a nearby, simple party with her friends. She wanted to literally raise my mother into a girl that stays at home most of the time and doesn't leave the house until marriage.

I don't agree with that type of style. The child isn't going to learn about being street smart if you keep trying to maintain them in a bubble. Selena Quintanilla's (a former singer) father was very protective of his daughter and disapproved of her relationship for the longest... look where it got... she got shot to death by a suppose "friend" for going alone on that motel to meet her.

- parents don't allow me to go to a concert if i'm alone, even if i go with friends it should be the one that i'm close to.
-if parents going outside and i stay at home, they told me to stay on bedroom and lock the door. Soon when they gone, dad texted me if i was fine and said to call him if anything happen.
-i want to go overseas with my friends and dad just didn't allow because we're girls and overseas mean he can't look after me. (I'm 17 btw)
-once i went home after midnight, dad got mad telling me that i shouldn't stay late and it's dangerous, though i only stay at friend's house to make macaroon and brownies XD
-last thing, not really tho, when relatives ask me if i already have a boyfriend, dad always blurted that i don't need one and i have to finish my study first if i want to date.
