I am a 22 year old shy guy, never had a girlfriend and don’t feel as if I ever will have one. I have only ever asked out two girls in my life and both situations ended badly.

Situation 1: At the end of high school I fell for a girl I had gotten friendly with we went out a few times, she told me she liked me/would often ask me to do things with her/for her. Met her family, things were going great was beginning to develop feelings for her and then I find out whilst she had been dating me she had been sleeping with my best friend and all my other friends knew about it. I felt a complete idiot and swore I’d never get involved like that again.

Situation 2: Fast forward six years. A few months ago I met a girl who was a friend of a friend and developed a crush on her. I sent her a handwritten note saying she seemed lovely and I would love to get to know her I gave her my number and asked her to call if she was interested in going out. She text the next day and said it would be great to meet and we set up a meeting for lunch. We had a great time but a few days later she text and said she may have given me the wrong impression but she was seeing someone at present. She agreed to remain friends and we texted back and forth for a while but she has started giving me the silent treatment. I can’t understand why so I text and apologised if I had done something to upset her and still nothing :(

I find a lot of girls attractive but don’t feel as if I could have a relationship with them. I prefer just me but also get incredibly lonely from time to time is there something wrong with me?
