We’ve been friends since middle school kind of on and off. Because honestly she (we’ll call her Lauren) used to be very obnoxious and she knows it, and we were in a friend group, the other girls didn’t really like her. Like just me and our other former best friend who she used to be clingy to before I showed up. The other girls were like “yeah she’s mean to us and is rude etc etc” so when we had group hangouts and the two of us weren’t the ones planning it, guess who didn’t make the invite. We kind of drifted in high school, still around each other but I was into musicals and stuff and she’s just very introverted and would just read and not talk to anyone or even try to get involved in a conversation.

The rest of the group stopped talking to me because the girl who acted like the alpha was such a bitch and I called her out on it, next thing you know I was ostracized. By the end of senior year we were like “fuck em” and it was just Lauren and I. I went off to college and made new friends (freshman year was trial and error, but by sophomore year I found great friends for me) but she went to community college and basically didn’t socialize with anyone. She just waited for me to be available to come over, sleep over whatever. It’s like she doesn’t even TRY to make other friends. It’s suffocating.

We are in our early 20’s I graduated college already and she has like another year to go. Whenever we hangout she immediately assumes she can sleepover my place or like insists that I sleepover hers. We’re girls. That means we have to share a bed, and she’s gonna try to cuddle with me and invade my personal space. Speaking of that whenever she sees me she always has to give me a ridiculously long hug, it’s heavy handed and she literally doesn’t let go. I am open to hugs but I’m not this overly affectionate person, I read social cues. She really doesn’t.

I introduced her to my college friends at my grad party and still she just clings to me the whole time! I’m sick of it.

So I've been seeing this guy recently that I've been talking for a few months and we seem to have a lot of similarities/things in common. Whenever we would meet up/go on a date we always ended up doing something sexually and this one time he begged to do something and wouldn't take no for an answer but we didn't do anything. ( i have told him how i felt about things and he apologize for doing that and said it won't happen again)

he's new to all of this relationship stuff he's not use to it and things like meeting families/talking about kids or anything far ahead freak him out. He said he wants to take things naturally and not put pressure on it. He said something about what i said before about being lonely and starting over again. He has told his dad and friend about me. he's more of an in person guy.

When were in public he hardly looks at me sometimes (he did say thats what he does is people watch and just look around) and usually looks at me but when were alone he looks at me deeply in the eyes and is very affectionate. In public we do sometimes hold hands and hug , he puts his arm around me etc. We've had a few hiccups and he has anxiety so when we had a situation he was pushing me away.

He also told me he likes me and wants to be fair to me, he said he wants a relationship but his anxiety gets the best of him. (From what i can tell and confirmed with him)

he's a very shy guy and keeps to himself , not a huge fan of pda but when were alone he's not shy and as I've mentioned is very affectionate and looks deeply in my eyes and knows how to turn someone on/make someone feel good.

For the last 3 months he's been asking me about weddings and engagements and rings. Last night to be cute, he proposed in the kitchen as "practice". Except he called me by the wrong name. He called me his ex from 5 years ago who cheated on him with his best friend. I tried to brush off how hurt i was but he made the mistake of apologizing profusely and saying he knew my name, but then messed up my middle name 2x more. At that point, I lost it. When we woke up, we hugged and made up but heart hurts so much. I dont want to go home to him. I think we need a break now.
