Search Results: overreacting to a situation

My roommate is a firefighter doing a program and going to school. His friend that stops by is going to school and doing the same program. His buddy parties a lot and says a lot of shit that sort of pisses us all off. Today he said he just looks at firefighting as a job and made fun of my roommate for embracing his whole life around it having posters and shit.

Now my roommate and I are tight and I look out for him just as he looks out for me. I only really know law enforcement but I know when your job is to put your life on the line everyday and when your life is dependent upon your partners judgement and actions at times.. it's not just a job. It's something you have to be passionate about. If someone didn't have heart, then they wouldn't put their life on the line for you when the shit hits the fan. You wouldn't be worth it. It's so stressful and so demanding that if you didn't have heart you would just get up and quit. I explained all of this to him and he sort of just tried to laugh himself out of the situation. I blatantly told him that I wouldn't ever work with somebody that has his attitude.

I don't know if I was out of line or overreacting by humiliating this dude in front of a group of guys lol. I would of shut up but he was taking shots at my roommate. Roommate was giving me a high five and was laughing when he left. He was happy that I said in the end but I don't know how the other guys reacted when they left with the dude that I laid out. In my opinion and from my judgement.

I shouldn't be starting drama or verbal fights with other people when it's not nessesary. It might sound cheesy but this is something that I've really been working on the last year or so. I'm used to being in your face and since that's what I've been used to, it's hard to sort of gauge as to what's too much and what's not too much. That's why I've been asking these kind of questions on gag a lot.
