My father was raised Catholic, my mother Lutheran. When they decided to get married, the Catholic Church wouldn't marry them because my mother wasn't Catholic (even if she converted they wouldn't have married them because it "wouldn't be sincere"), so my father converted and became Lutheran so they could be together.

I was raised Lutheran, but I'm in a long-term relationship with a Muslim woman. We discussed our religious differences extensively and never fought over it - neither of us are interested in converting or pressuring the other to convert, her family took the news of our relationship in stride and hasn't applied pressure either (they're very progressive) but mine has had difficulty accepting the situation and worries about me leaving the faith.

Way I figure it, if it comes down to it we'd go to a judge to get married if neither church nor mosque would condone it. Curious how others would approach this though.

If you think about it, the only reason religion is considered normal in our time is because those people in the biblical times accepted it, and passed it on to us through generations, then it became normal because a lot of people did it and it was a tradition. The honest truth is those people didn't reason very well.
If religion got started now, we would have a completely different opinion about it.

For example, if you stuck something to the fridge using a magnet, now kids know its normal, but back then, the people who accepted religion in the first place would've labeled you as a witch and burned you at the stake without a trial. Also kings would intentionally lie and say God talked to them to change a law so they could do whatever they wanted, knowing people would blindly follow him without even questioning him.

That wouldn't work now, don't you think we would have a different opinion if religion got started in our time? Like everything was based off facts until now and today a guy on the street or on tv tried explain Christianity. Same thing with the other religions. Then they tried converting people, what would you truley think? What would the general population think? In all honesty they wouldn't be looked at as religions, they would all be looked at similar to a "cult".
