I'm 21, he's 24.

So, I started working at this call center in March; this is when I first met him (Call him JJ). He would smile at me from across the room, and whenever I would walk by he would smile and wave. About 2 months later, I finally asked if he had a girlfriend. "Yeah, but I'd let you know if I didn't" AND WALKED OFF. It was awkward for a while after that.

About 3 weeks later, someone told me they broke up. I guess my friend saw him at a party on the 4th of July and asked him about me. He said I was "super hot" immediately, and she asked if he was talking to me, and he said he "wasn't sure I was his type." But I noticed since the 4th, he has been talking to me (which he never did before) and smiling at me more and?
Friday, I was sitting outside, and he came and sat at the bench RIGHT next to mine (he has NEVER sat there) and of COURSE I was on the phone. So I hang up and he sits for a minute more, then he stands up and goes "hey, [my name], what time did we go on lunch?" (he RARELY initiated conversation first) and I told him and he smiled and said "sweet," and kinda lingered then walked off...

So, today, he walked outside while I was on break. I said "Hey, I'm gonna be awkward one more time." He smiled really big lol.

"I just think you are so so super cute, I don't know." So I asked if he wanted my number or to hang out and he goes "I mean, obviously you're..." and he gestured to me and said "very pretty, you know that," and he's like "but I just broke up with my girlfriend. I just need some time." He smiled, and I apologized for being awkward. He said, "it isn't you, you just make it-" and I said something I can't remember... FOR SOME REASON I say "well, do you want my number, like? you don't have to text me." *CRINGE I KNOW* and he's like, "maybe someday. If I had your number I WOULD text you so, not right now." He smiled and walked off. But that's the thing like, he seems to reject me then leave a statement at the end that's "promising." Help!

We've known each other for about a year. We actually met online became good friends very soon after we met. I began liking him and admitted it a few months after, but at the time he said that he had put romance to the side because he's going through some big life changes at the moment. However, lately, I've noticed that things have changed between us, and even though my friends and I think he has a crush on me, I also worry that I'm misreading things.

Reasons why I think he might like me:

1. He initiates conversations with me more. Either tries putting a smile on my face with a cute picture or just messaged me to say hi and see how I'm doing. Texts me in the morning and in random parts of the day

2. He's flirted with me. He is one of the shyest guys I know, and I've never seen him flirt with anyone until the two of us started talking.

3. He gives me nicknames of endearment (dear, sweets, sweetheart, even called me babe)

4. He compliments me a lot. Calls me beautiful, cute, sweet, etc.

5. He gets excited about me liking the same shows and movies he likes

6. Always tells me I should go visit him and he is serious about wanting to visit me too. He recently moved to a new city and said that his new neighborhood would become more perfect if I were there.

7. Says he really loves me. One time when I told him how much I liked one of the nicknames he gave me, he said, "I like you"

Reasons I think he might not like me:

1. We run out of things to talk about sometimes. I'm not sure if it's because we're both too nervous though

2. Has referred to me as his friend a couple times. Of course we're not officially dating or anything, so we technically are friends, but I guess this just made me... confused, somehow?

3. I think it's mostly my pessimistic side that makes me think that he might not see me that way, so it's all probably just me being too worrisome or something

What are your thoughts on this situation with my crush and me?
