Search Results: stopped dating her when school started up again

Disclaimer: Alright first off, I'd like to make known that I am not expecting any condolences or scoldings. I know I've done wrong. I'm asking for unbiased opinions. I'm also not sure whether this would go under break-up or relationship.

Background: My ex from two years ago has never really gotten over me. I've tried to seal that off as the past. Well for the last several months she has been dating one of the nicest guys at our school and he loves her. That's not in question. he's also on my track team. All my friends are his friends. Which will add to the problem. Also I only have two months left before I graduate and track will be over.

Story: Well a little over 2 weeks ago, a conversation with her kind of went too far, and she started coming on to me, and I her. Though I made it clear (or so I thought) that I didn't want anything more than a friendship, and she said she understood. This is where I made a huge mistake. Neither of us tried to stop the whole trist and within a couple days it got so far that, well let's just say it went to far. Yes, I know this was the ultimate wrong-doing that I could have done. Well after that she asked me if it was wrong to not feel guilty. And I said I honestly didn't know and couldn't answer for her.

The next day when returning to school, I saw him and felt the greatest pang of guilt, and knew that what happened really shouldn't have happened. I told her that this needed to stop and it has. I've made sure of it. I've had to completely ignore her at times because she acts like nothing happened at times and wants more.

Issue: Over the last two weeks I've felt extremely guilty even though I somewhat shouldn't because I'm not the one who cheated. Though you could call me a home wrecker, I guess. Her boyfriend already has suspicions about me trying to "steal" her even though I have no intentions of doing so. Part of me wants to tell him, because he deserves not to be lied to and shouldn't be left clueless as to what happens behind his back. The other part of me doesn't want to because that could jeopardize all my friendships and he would then lose his girlfriend he loves so dearly. She at least says that she still loves him the same in return (though I have doubts...).

Question(s): How do I deal with this situation? Is it worse to be the cheater or the home wrecker?

Again, I don't need to be told I did something wrong. I know I did. All I'm interested in is how to at least alleviate the situation and retain at least a shred of honor and dignity.
