This guy and I met through a dating site and have been talking for a few years consistently. We have had many intellectually stimulating conversations and have developed an emotional connection unlike anything I’ve had before. He has been there for me through a lot of ups and downs in my life, etc but as time went on I started noticing things that didn’t add up about him. He also seemed to have a lot of reasons for why we couldn’t meet up in person.

Well, I eventually confronted him about the whole thing. Turns out he had made himself out to be younger and more religious than was the case. He knew I was in my 20s and a virgin and he was worried if I knew the truth about him, I wouldn’t want to be with him anymore. He is in his 40s and has already been married and divorced before but with no kids. I am incredibly shocked and trying to process. I know his age doesn’t change who he is but I’m worried that we are at two different points in our life and that things that seem exciting or novel to him may mean nothing to him. I did notice he had a lot of worldly experience compared to me, especially for someone in his early 30s.

But now that I know his actual age, I am having some second thoughts, especially since he wants to get married and have kids with me. How do you feel about age gaps? How significant are they for you when you are finding a spouse? And how do your family/friends feel about it.

We both want to take it slow and making-out just happened (on our second date). I need to tell him how I am feeling, but I don’t know how to bring it up.

I really like this guy and he really likes me, I just want him to like me for me before we get romantic. We’ve only had 3 dates so I think making out for over an hour is a little much.
I am pretty much just trying to draw out some boundaries before it’s too late (and there is nothing left to build an emotional connection on). What advice can you give me for building these boundaries early? Also what convo starter (A or B) sounds better?
