I'm having an issue with some of the people my boyfriend is associating with and it's negatively affecting our relationship. I want to bring it up now because if it's something that can't be resolved, I'd rather know sooner than later and get out now.
HOWEVER, we have this AMAZING 3 year anniversary trip planned in January and It's already pre-paid (by me, it's my birthday, christmas, and anniversary present to him. it's a BIG Expense). I love him and i HOPE we would be able to work through the issues anyway, but if for some reason we can't I would still want to go on this trip with him (it's planned specifically for the two of us, i couldn't really invite anyone else) and it's already paid for and I can't change the names without losing everything.

Should I just wait until after the trip? even if we can't fix our issues, i'd be glad to have those memories with him and I can deal with the problems until after the trip since I've been dealing with them for about a year now already.

So I've known this guy for 6 years, we met initially it started out with everything that it shouldn't have but an innocent kiss and then we both just stayed friends, and I got a boyfriend he got a girlfriend. Then, I got a new boyfriend and he dumped his girlfriend or something, and he didn't like my boyfriend and I caught him smelling me once, like, my neck. Getting too close, he didn't deny it (did later tho) when I accused him & my mutual friends were really not cool with him hanging around because he was all over me and I never really noticed. Then throughout the years we evolved into more of a best friend relationship so I thought, but he never dated anyone again despite being very attractive. When I got engaged he picked up and moved & recently blew me off when he was supposed to visit. He didn't even call to say "Sorry I can't visit." He was pretty sure that I was going to stop being friends with him, & he was right I was going to tell him to his face potentially depending on the situation, I couldn't end a friendship over the phone, in text or email that was that long & personal. He had yelled at me on my birthday & called me a spiteful b word, then claimed he didn't even know it was my birthday even though I mentioned it in a countdown to him every day that week because I was turning 25 so it was a big deal. He apologized, got drunk the next day sent sexy pics with like here's a present bday girl ;) or something like that. I thought people do stupid things they don't mean when they're drunk but according to studies I read online, people mean that stuff. He told me I was the closest thing to romantic love he ever had, he left the STATE right after I told him I got engaged, asked why didn't -I- the woman pursue him? Like he was so special. Then he blocked my fiance on Facebook but didn't block me, we usually make up by now & I really have forgiven him but the question is -can this be fixed-? If he subconsciously 'loves' me it's kinder to just stop?

My birthday is coming up and I have a bit of an awkward situation. There are two events that Friday night: 1) my boyfriend's friend's housewarming party and 2) a party/wake (it's at a bar) for a guy my boyfriend went to high school and middle school with. Both events start at the same time.

Now I don't really care overly much about my birthday. I don't make a fuss or demand presents, or care about having a party for me, but both of these situations would be awkward for me because it's my birthday.

The housewarming party is strange because I would kind of have to keep my birthday a secret. it's so rude to come to a party and be like "hey it's my birthday! pay attention to me now!".

The wake/party would be pretty sad. I've also never met the guy or even heard his name until I heard of his death. I don't want to be unsupportive of my boyfriend (who doesn't seem upset), but I also wouldn't want to intrude on his remembrance with his family and friends, especially since I won't be in the mood to be somber.

What should I do? Go to both events for a bit? Go to neither? Either way, I feel like I'm not really allowed to have my birthday. I also don't want to offend my boyfriend. He says it's up to me. I don't know what to do. Help?
