This guy, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said "There are more important things than living, and that’s saving this country for my children and grandchildren and saving this country for all of us" and that lots of grandparents would risk their life to keep the country afloat economically.

Personally, it is silly. It's not like economic contraction is permanent. It can be recovered in some years, so it is not like the future generations are doomed in case the reopening is done in a few months from now. For example, Hiroshima and Nagasaki recovered in 15-20 years (in log population growth) after being nuked. I understand that not opening up has severe impact on lives, but surely that can be mitigated through other means (e. g. UBI) than effectively using the elderly (and here over 50% of those on ICU are below 50) as a sacrifical lamb.

Despite being an atheist, I'm not really crazy about atheist activism. I feel that atheism is the natural result of learning about science. On top of that, I think it's quite silly to define yourself by what you DON'T believe. Instead of atheist activism, there needs to be more education on scientific matters. Am I wrong? 🤔
