I'm a woman on a dating app, average looking, but a woman on a dating app no less so I've had people swiping me right (which I found surprising, but I suppose it's common for dating apps?) However whenever I find someone attractive or interesting I chicken out and never end up swiping right. (I have to also mention that I'm not looking for hookups, I'm looking for a relationship, not the primary use for dating apps for most, I know, but I gave it a try anyway since I haven't had much luck otherwise). I've gained the confidence to actually swipe a good dozen of times and I managed to match once, but the conversation between me and him was incredibly awkward. It clearly just meant that we're not alike at all and things wouldn't have worked out, but it felt so uncomfortable. I don't know how to act and appear like myself on these apps, it feels so different than if we were to talk face to face in real life.
But a lot of people find partners online these days. Should I ditch online dating and hope for the best eventually finding someone in real life by pure luck or should I try to get better at online dating?

I experienced self-loathing progressively for the past 2 years of my life more than ever before. For me, it wasn't just hating how I looked, it was hating my whole character. I was in a toxic (and mentally abusive) relationship at the time where i was putting my all into someone and never getting anything back, and it drained me of everything. I slowly started getting more depressed, and started putting myself down a lot. Then with that, came a strong feeling of anxiety all the time, especially in social situations, I started to really my character, felt like I wasn't "normal" and would put myself down over it, felt like I was too awkward and nobody would like me. As things got worse in my life I started to blame myself for a lot of it, and thought I was like bad luck to the people around me, and they would be better if I wasn't there. I've tried finding people online who've gone through a similar experience to me but couldnt find any so I've come here.
