Basically, a friend of mine (let’s call her lyla) who told me all about her turbulent childhood the other day. She said that she can’t remember much from her childhood and has felt like empty/a piece of her has been missing for as long as she could remember. She said that she tends to feel really depressed at times, and that she went through a phase of taking drugs as well.

Lately, she’s been attending therapy and told me that her therapist thinks she may have been sexually abused when she was younger and that she’s blocked the memories out. She said she felt like a weight had been lifted from her, and believes this is the answer to what’s been wrong all those years.

I’m not sure, I really hope her therapist is wrong. Is it really possible that you wouldn’t remember being abused as a child?

My SO's memories of his childhood and teenage years (up until 17) are a complete blur.

This makes me really worried about him, and I also feel like I'll never really truly know him. I noticed when I share my childhood memories, he has nothing. That's when I asked him why he never shared his past with me... and that's when he told me he genuinely can't remember.

He got really upset when he told me this. He also says he feels like a part of him is 'missing' and I wonder if that feeling has anything to do with lack of memories.

I worry something bad happened when he was young, and he subconsciously blocked everything out.

Is it all normal to have no childhood memories?
