There's no doubt that when we talk about cancer there is a series of words that come to mind such as strong, brave, courageous, heroic, warrior, fighter etc... I've also seen a bit of duscussion regarding whether this kind of terminology would br appropriatley applied to someone with cancer if they had no choice but to face the reality of their situation. As for me, I could give two shits what the word technically means, I'm not so shallow as to be more concerned about the definition of a word than what it actually means to the person that it's being applied to. I heard some people say that it inspires those who are living with cancer to not give up and keep on going. But the other side is that it's a coping mechanism for those who aren't sick because it adds meaning to something that in reality is meaningless and all devouring. The thought that a loved one could have gone through all that pain and agony for no purpose is one that many find unbearable so they rationalize it by portraying is as a brave and heroic struggle because the reality is too much to bear. But not only that but putting people afflicted with cancer on a pedastil and idolizing them allows those who are not sick to put the notion that that could just as easily be them to the back of their heads by saying it's a brave fight that these heroic few face. And the problem that I have with the use of it as a coping mechanism for the not sick is that yes, pain sucks, but we feel it for a reason; it lets us know something is wrong. Sure some relief is good like giving morphine to someone who's terminal and dying a painful death but it can be also detrimental like passengers on a ship sitting there and being soothed by the band when the ship goes down. And if people were to face the horrid reality of cancer instead of sugra coating it with these labels I can't help but feel there would be a greater call to action for things like universal health care and better treatment.

Just watched the 1st episode of the new season and damn..
That dude got his face bit (meh, normal for walking dead), but then he started screaming and blood got onto his bare. fucking. eye. and there was blood everywhere. That is a good actor if he can just scream and act like he's dying a horrible and painful death while fake blood got onto his bare eye. He didn't say "cut" or anything, he used the pain of liquid on his eye to his advantage.
Fair to say, that's the first scene of the walking dead that has scarred me.
Fuck, man. That was so fucked up. Like, just imagine that was real. I'd be having nightmares.

The Walking Dead just grew some balls.
