I have (had?) a best friend who has been extremely flakey the past several months. At first I though maybe he was just a little depressed because he has lost his job, but now he has one again and he's still doing the same thing. It's gotten so bad that I'm honestly considering the possibility that he's doing it on purpose and gets a laugh out of how easy it's been to take advantage of me.

For example, he conveniently mentioned how he attented a very casual but mutual friend's birthday party this weeked because he's been trying to be better at not flaking, but never acknowledges how he has flaked on me virtually ever time this summer. Even when he calls me, begs me to change my plans to meet him somewhere, then he no-call no-shows and never apologizes.

Another time he asked me to help him pick up an appliance he order because I have a truck. He said the store wanted to charge $119 for delivery and said he'd rather pay me instead. I wasn't expecting the full amount, maybe half, but it was a 45 minute drive roundtrip, he showed up 30 minutes late, had to wait almost an hour for him to move furnature around in his house so we could move it to his kitchen. He ended up paying me $30 for about 3 hours of time and 45 miles on my truck. I know it's my fault for not negotiating a price ahead of time, so I guess that's what I get for assuming my "friend" is not a cheap-ass.

How should I handle our "break-up"? I've already confronted him about his flakyness in the past, and he has acknowledged it, but it hasn't gotten any better. If anything its gotten worse. We work together so I plan to be my normal self at work, but next time he wants to try and plan something outside of work I'm going to be busy.

Have you guys every had a close friend who behaved like this? What did you do?

I met this girl, on a night train, when we both were traveling. During the train ride she showed geat interest in me: lots of questions, loots of prolonged eye contact (3s) and smiling, asks for my facebook, etc. We agreed to meet up, but since she was with her friends visiting my country, we ended up not meeting there.

Later, we agreed to meet each other in another country, which i planned to visit and where she was going alone.
In the first day we were ok, mostly in group with people from the hostel, she was warm to me but not nearly as interested as in the train, but i also did some mistakes... I arranged with her a plan for the next day, she agreed to it, but in the next morning she made up a lame excuse to flake and started acting cold to me...

Since then i stopped giving her attention and focused on going out to meet local girls. After this she changed her behavior, reengaging conversations with me, asking if i did meet any local girl, etc.. she even tried to make me jealous, flirting with another guy in hostel, where i could see.

The thing that bothered me the most is that, before leaving the city, we were with a small group talking, and i catched her staring at me, by the corner of my eye. I looked back at her, and she did look away very quickly. Now, i know this means she was unconfortable and that either she finds me repusive and did not want me to think she was interestested OR she was nervous that i catched her looking at me, and that shows at least some interest...

Ill probabily never see her again, but i can't take this doubt of my head! Why would she be looking at me after she rejected me and why would she look away like that?
