Recession, or new economy? Who knows. All I know is a lot of men like myself have had a rough time of it.

Blame us, blame circumstances, either way we find ourselves overqualified for most jobs and short on credit and/or credentials for others.

So we look like scrubs. Old used cars, thrift shop clothes, credit in the trash, no big options on the horizon.

Inside we have more experience and promise than most princes. Outside we look like failures.

Would you rather have an intelligent, insightful, empathetic has-been, or a guy who's had it pretty good but seems to just have been born into it, or found the right network to push him along?

Would you rather gamble on a man who spends every moment struggling towards redemption, or go with someone lesser endowed in talent and vision, and more graced by providence and social contacts?

It seems to me that in Western culture, there is a nearly subconscious understanding that men are intellectually superior, and not to sound sexist, but it seems to generally hold true. I'm talking on a societal level here, not on an individual basis.

Point in case: I can find many, many guys who I can talk to about deep subjects. Philosophy, religion, politics - meaningful life topics in general. On the other hand, it's extremely rare that I find girls like this. It seems most of them [at least where I live] are primarily interested in partying, buying clothes/shoes/etc, and painting a favorable image of themselves on social media.

A disproportionately large number of girls to guys seem very superficial as well as intellectually shallow. When do I find a highly intelligent and/or introspective girl, they're almost never any sort of pretty. When I find both it's like a diamond in the rough; I feel like I have just won the lottery!

It also seems like somewhat of a double standard that men need be particularly successful/talented/skilled in something. They need to have a driving passion and concrete life goal, while the same rarely seems to apply to women.

An easy example I can find here...

You take a moderately skilled male guitarist and put him on YouTube - he'll get ten thousand views and a lot of "nice playing brah" type comments.

You take a moderately skilled female guitarist and put her on YouTube - she'll get ten MILLION views and half the commenters will claim they've fallen in love.

What gives?

It's a little bit disappointing to me that in this day and age, where we have claimed to come so far with gender equality, that women seem to still be lauded almost entirely for being a sex object, and their intellectual standard is seen as significantly lower than their male counterparts. It seems that women are the only ones that can get by in life with nothing but sex appeal.

Does anyone sympathize with me here? I sincerely would like to see smarter females on Earth. It would be nice to have female intellectuals and female politicians for a change... but our Facebook culture doesn't seem to be taking us in that direction any time soon.

And for the love of God, I need someone I can date who isn't another dumb pretty party girl.
