For context I will mention that, for the past six months, a transfer student from England has been living across the street from me. She is twenty-two years old, she has a lovely British accent, and she is an aspiring journalist.

I like her very much, but, being a highly introverted and shy person, I have not managed to introduce myself yet, even though we live only a few hundred yards away..

I wake up early, and I rarely close my blinds, so I see her when she goes to work in the morning; and, because I can do most of my work from home, I also see when she comes home in the early evening. I know her work schedule, and when she goes shopping, or out with friends. I am not purposefully watching her, but I always tend to find myself near the front window when I know she will come or go soon.

I know this can seem rather unsettling to people, especially given that when we do see each other from across the street I cannot seem to make conversation, and as such end up just waiting awkwardly for one of us to leave.

I read anything she manages to publish in the local news, or online, and if possible I always leave feedback online. I doubt if she even knows my name, but I really like her.

My sister, who lives next door to me, has spoken to her a few times. I haven't told my sister about anything yet, however, so I would not think that anything should be explained by her.

So I had grown up in a ghetto little town in Brazil... it was hell. Steep ass roads, criminals always about, dirt everywhere, corrupt police, etc.

Then my family moved to the US when I was 5... it was a ghetto part for US standards, but much better than Brazil. But there, people treated my mom like absolute trash. She could barely speak English, was only 5'02, and was overall very meek and submissive in nature. And we lived in a racist Black neighborhood... there, the Black women, who were physically bigger (taller, more bulk), and more aggressive and violent, constantly beat up my mom. She couldn't even say a "good morning" to them without them saying something like, "Oh hell no! This little white devil foreign Spanish lady with an accent tryin' to talk to me? I'ma beat her ass!" And one day, one of those women beat her up so bad she killed my mom. It was the saddest day of my life. And the women in the neighborhood didn't care.

My dad wasn't exposed to this violence, as he went to work, and rarely got involved with the neighborhood... but my mom was a stay at home mom. So she was fucked.

As a result, I wanted to become as strong, big, and intimidating as I could, just so no one messes with me, and I don't have the same fate as my mom. Big and strong was my idea of power, even when it came to the shows I watched.

By the time I was in high school, I started to exercise and go to the gym literally everyday, for about 5-6 hours each. By the end of my freshman year, I was more chiseled up than I had ever been in my life. And at the start of my sophomore year, no one even dared lay a finger on me. There were only a handful of people with more muscles than me at my school.

I never hurt anyone unless they touched me first, and was usually kind in nature... but I promised I would become big and strong and live on and not let anyone mess with me, which would make my mom proud.

I tend to get mixed reactions when I tell people I'm Russian, especially since my accent is British (Well, I still have a bit of Russian in there), I moved to the UK when I was young with my family and grew up here. Now with all this trouble over the Skripal poisoning I've noticed a change in attitudes, at one point people wouldn't blink when I told them I was Russian, in the past two weeks alone I've had abuse hurled at me and told to go home.

I want to get a general feeling of the people, so this is mainly to the UK people, although if you're not from the UK feel free to post but it would be helpful if you made mention of it.

I used to be a huge gym buff, not so much anymore.

I live at home still. I am still dependent financially on my parents. I am unemployed as of currently and spend most of my time learning programming, so that one day, I can score a career in programming and web development.

In the meantime, I am working on projects that can potentially make a lot of money in and of itself.

I do not leave the house much anymore as I am completely dedicated to programming. I strike out on dating websites all the time.
