Lately my friend and I have been texting again. We'll go through periods where we will talk for hours every day, then not text at all for a few weeks. He always says sorry and that he's been busy, which I understand considering how tough his classes are. He said he wants me to text him more often because he forgets to text me. Today, after chatting for a bit, he said "I appreciate you talking to me." I replied that a lot of people probably talk to him. His response was that most people only use him for free therapy, while I don't. I said, "Oh, well I care about you." "As I you," he replied.

This is one of the messages he sent: "Like I don't know if eventually we might date and I hope that doesn't like get your hopes up because I truly don't know." He then said he just wanted to be honest because he's "hurt me before." (Saying he likes me, only to date someone else last year.)

We'll talk for hours, and he responds almost instantly to anything I say. It takes me several minutes to think of a response, but he still reads it and gives a response a few seconds after I send it. Earlier he began the conversation with, "Hey. I feel like you need to make friends. Or I need to find you people that will be good friends to you... because I hate the fact that I'm the only person that talks to you."
(Sorry this is so long.) Do you think he likes me, or is he just being nice because he is my only friend?
