Things are really changing. There’s the pick-up artist community now, who embrace sexual liberation and use that to resist the assault against masculinity that the media and academia wage.

There are the ‘Men Going Their Own Way’, who are dropping out of the world of dating and relationships, many of them even dropping out of education and the world of serious careers. Contrary to popular perception, MGTOW are mostly not a conscious movement (unlike for example the PUAs). Most MGTOW probably haven’t even heard of the term. But they know that something’s wrong with society even if they don’t quite know what, and they’re reacting.

There’s still a mainstream of men, sure. But today’s mainstream is looking less and less like yesterday’s. They’re not the psycho-socio-sexual experts that PUAs are. And unlike MGTOW they’re not dropping out of dating and relationships and certainly not careers and education, but they do refuse to do many of the things that women expect of them. Many mainstreamers don’t approach women much. They won’t take women out on dates, wait for sex or do acts of chivalry, and they’re reluctant to commit. Mainstreamers therefore are also reacting to social changes, often unconsciously.

All this is a delayed reaction to feminism, because it does take a while for a society to change (today’s young men are the first generation of men to be raised in a feminist society). We were waiting to see how men would respond to feminism. And now we know. Do you like? Dislike?

I can’t remember the last time I or any of my friends (all in their early twenties or late teens) approached a girl.

I think guys basically don’t approach girls anymore. I can think of plenty of reasons why this has happened: stress (today’s young people are very stressed, which leads to lower sex drive and confidence), the constant criticism of masculinity (masculinity requires support because it’s tough to achieve; without support and celebration, it dies); greater access to and acceptability of the adult industry (which makes being single less painful for men).

I think girls are under the illusion that many guys still approach. It is true that most girls get approached, but it seems to be older men and the small minority of charming, non-pathetic young men who do most of the approaches. Perhaps this is why most girls these days find it difficult to convert a casual relationship into a committed one: there just aren’t enough men making approaches for each woman to have her own man.
