Search Results: everyone makes a big deal

So i basically did not spend much time at this dance I was asked to by my guy friend. I made it clear at the beginning we were going just as friends, but leading up to it I began getting odd feelings that he was trying to make it into a 'date' as not just friends. Another guy friend warned me about this. I unintentionally did not spend a lot of time with him at the dance because I sort of lost him and my group in the dance hall to the crowd and ended up saying hi to different people I knew. I wanted to leave early because I was not feeling well and a friend who was leaving offered to take me home. I pushed through tons of people trying to find him and personally tell him I was going to leave. I did so and he sent me a nasty text afterwards.

Flash forward a couple of days. I have been busy with my two jobs and have not had the chance or felt the need to talk to him. The crowd I usually hang with say I am avoiding everyone (and for good reason, been depressed and caught up with work) I usually don't see much of them during the week anyways. He sent me a couple of nasty texts cursing at me and saying I owe him and am not a good friend and I need to make it up to him somehow if I want to remain friends. This turned me off because I feel I have nothing to apologize for, I feel I own him nothing, and he shouldn't over react because I believe we were just friends. Everyone thinks I should apologize and be the bigger person. I feel he is making too much of a deal out of this because we are just friends. Should I apologize even though I know I did sort of ditched him, but I did not mean to and I told him I was leaving twice or should I just end this because I really don't care for his friendship if he is going to be nasty like this towards me?
