About a year and a half ago I met a guy while my then-boyfriend and I were on a "break". We had instant chemistry both physically & emotionally. However, it didn't last long because of external factors on both of our parts. We've kept in touch sporadically over the past year or so, and recently started hanging out again a few weeks ago.
It was the third time I had seen him since (last week) and we were laying on the couch watching a movie. Next thing I know he's showing me profiles of girls on POF! I was completely baffled. I mean I don't expect a damn commitment from him but come on! I shrugged it off and we ended up in bed anyway (as much as I hate to admit it, it is in fact one of many reasons I contacted him again). He spent the night and left for work in the morning. I, of course, spent the rest of the next day trying to figure out what he was thinking.
Sure enough he calls me during his lunch break just to say "hi" and to ask what I was doing later. I had no plans and told him so, and he responded with "okay so I'll see you later?" (I was okay with this since it seemed that he was more interested in the physical aspect and I'm not looking to jump into anything at the moment.)
When he showed up later that night, he had not only brought treats for my dog (who he knows I adore more than anything), but had brought over food to make us dinner. THEN after dinner we fell asleep together, something that we NEVER do except after sex. This morning he and I went to breakfast at his favorite place, which happens to be extremely out of the way for both of us.
To make a long story shorter, I thought we were doing the friends with benefits thing since he never seemed interested in pursuing a relationship (at least not back when we met). Now he's all about the PDA and wanting me to meet some of his friends and doing sweet boyfriend-y things like making dinner and bringing my pup treats and even opening car doors!
Am I crazy or am I getting mixed signals?

I've been in a relationship for almost 5 years in January. Since we did get serious and settled down pretty fast, (right out of high school in 2010), last week we came to a mutual understanding that maybe we should take a break from each other and actually enjoy our early adulthood. (he brought it up, but I felt like this once before and never spoke on it). We agreed to always keep in contact, to make sure each other was okay. We have no kids together, he's been there for me throughout my 4 years of university, and I've been there for him through just about everything, Well, after 2 days of our "break", I told him since he wants to enjoy his young adult hood, I would like to join the Navy. (Didn't decide on active duty or the reserves at that moment). He completely pushed me away! Like, left and went out with his friends. Now, today, he said he apologize and wanted me to take him back, and if I didn't he understood. I was still indecisive, I was unsure since I already started making independent moves after he disregarded my plans for the future. After talking a bit today, come to find out, the night he went out, he got drunk and had sex with some girl! But is still upset that me joining the service is still in the back of my mind. I told him we can work through it, but my trust is not fully there anymore. I mean, I know we weren't together during the break, but sheesh 3 days after he broke up with me, he pulls this stunt and expects me to take him back. He said he did it out of spite because I wanted to live off in the world and forget about him. We currently live together, but i was slowly moving out within those 3 days. I mean, I know we all make mistakes and no one is perfect, but it's a tough pill to swallow. What do you think? Work it out or throw 5 years down the drain?

it's been like 41/2 years now, I admit it started when he still had a girlfriend but we both felt horrible about it and he told her right away and they broke up. I had started dating some one else, but when that ended he called me to see if i was ok, and became my shoulder to lean on. we saw each other over the course of a year but never defined it, I knew he wasn't over his last relationship fully because I know he loved her and they had been together since high school (almost a decade) he got jealous one night and incredibly angry and would not talk to me. I left for a long time, then I heard from him. again. and again. and I had missed him so much, so i saw him. This time things felt right, things felt wonderful, he was just as kind and thoughtful of me as ever, even without sex. but he still couldn't talk about relationships. I just don't know what the fuck he expected of me. we admitted deep feelings for each other, tell each other things no one else knows. but I had to end it again because after 2 months again he wouldn't commit to me. I don't understand him, he can't seem to stay away from me for very long, but I always have to end it and if I tell him i never want to see him again he begs me to take it back, that he could see himself with me, that he knows he could love me. But right now I am so hurt after having broken it off again. I have blocked him, I haven't talked to him at all, I miss him so much it hurts. I don't know what I can do, if anything, but he is so so good to me aside from this and tries so hard to try to get me to understand where he is coming from but i just can't. I don't know what he's scared of, I know he really likes me to have come back all this time, why not just get a new girl? I miss him so much, I feel heartbroken.
