Even though I do want to have children of my own, I also really want to adopt. I figure that if by the time my kid(s) are teenagers and I'm well off enough to handle another child, I'd go ahead and adopt one.

So many children go through the system for years without a family, some of them never get families. Some never go to college, never find jobs, get extremely depressed, and they have no one to turn to.

I know for a fact that if I do well financially, I'm going to adopt/foster kids who are 8+ years old (they are very much less likely to be adopted), send them to a good school, provide them a loving and supportive family, and help them make up for the childhood they didn't have.

It would also be really nice to have a big, diverse family. I love the idea of having a big family if I'm well off, but I don't enjoy the idea of ever giving birth to more than two kids :P

My only problem with my little plan is knowing that just because I want to be the one to help a child, or even several children, doesn't mean my spouse (assuming I'll have one) would want to... I'm not even sure if this is even something he'd enjoy or want. I'll see.

Would you ever adopt? If your husband/wife/significant other wanted to adopt or foster kids in this fashion would you be up for it?

Also, I know adopting and having kids in general isn't for everyone, so I'm not going to freak out if this just isn't something you'd be up for.
