Ok, first a short story:

I have two regular customers at my work that have been coming in since before they were married. Mommy is a blond natural blond with blue eyes. The husband is also a natural blond with brown eyes. The son (who is now about... maybe 3 or 4) has brown hair and blue eyes...

Now... there is a very small chance that were he and she to have a kid that the kid would turn up with that combination of hair/eye color due to mutations, modifier genes that suppress a brown gene in either parent, or one of them having 3 genes (bbB), but again these chances are exceedingly small... He probably should have paid for a paternity test...

Now back to business:

I feel very strongly that, should I ever get a woman pregnant, that I would want a paternity test to be done. It doesn't matter to me how much I trust my partner, I'd just want it done. I figure even if I trusted her close to 100%, there's no harm" in re-enforcing my trust with hard evidence. If nothing else, it'd stop others from questioning who might trust her less than I do (people do gossip about these things). Hypothetically, if the kid's mine she'd have nothing to hide and shouldn't take offence to the idea of a paternity test.

Yet... whenever I express this view around women they tend to get really pissed about it.
