I want to be friends with my ex! We only dated for a few months before it ended (he ended it). Our relationship's timing was off, and it ended with minimal drama, though awkwardly. Basically we got along really well and I think we could be great friends now that some time has come between us. And after moping for a few months, I've accepted the way things are and am moving on. I've dipped my feet back into dating again, too (nothing too serious though). So all is good... except for this nagging feeling. I miss my best friend - in my mind it's a shame if I don't at least try to include him back in my life! I want to know how he is.

We haven't remained in contact though, needed a cooling off period. It's been 5 months. Is that too soon to reach out with a friendly hello? Should I wait a bit longer? I don't know if he's still awkward about me. I can force myself to be patient and wait longer lol. Or do you think he'll take it as an attempt to like get back together? How do I make sure I convey I'm trying to build a platonic friendship? We don't have mutual friends, so I can't ask him to hang out in a group setting.

So I deactivated my Facebook for 5 days because I found myself becoming way too involved. I learned from this 5 day break that there is so much more out there than spending endless hours on social media. I noticed things around me that I overlooked because I was so into Facebook. The break, as brief as it was, felt like 5 weeks. I just missed seeing what everyone was up to, especially my family and close friends. What I learned was patience, and that I can function without it for long periods of time. Plus those closest to me that I spend a lot of my time with really appreciated my undivided attention. I must say, my phone was never so quiet. I think taking an occasinal break from social media is a great idea. Thoughts?
