I grew up with two extremely strict parents. They scheduled every minute of my day with chores & activities. They didn't let me pick out my own clothes even when I was a teenager. I was always afraid to show them my report card because they had high expectations. I feel like kids do require discipline & guidance but strict parenting ruins a kid's childhood experience.

Everytime a kid acts out in public, my mom always turns up her nose and says to me and my siblings, "You guys NEVER acted like that. You knew better." My parents do tend to be a lot stricter than most parents these days, some just let their kids run over them, but is it really that simple?

So my boyfriend of 6 months and I, both have anxiety and, the past month, our anxiety has been mutually high which increased our fighting. The other day when he was coming to see me, he said his ex girlfriend of two years popped up in his mind. He says he doesn't know why, he hasn't talked to her in a good 5-6 months, and they've been broken up a year. They were long distance with strict parents, and they'd only ever gone out in person once. She sent him a message after we'd gotten together saying she still loved him but he shrugged it off. He wanted a break because of all our fighting and he needs to know why these feelings came into his mind again. He says he's insanely in love with me, but wants to talk to her to see how he feels. He came over today, despite the break and kissed me, and said he knows he's still in love with me but needs time. I know more about his past than she does. He was kicked out shortly after they broke up, and he's a changed person she doesn't know anymore. Should I even believe we have a chance? I love him very much. Random tidbit of info: we were long distance for 4 of our 6 months.
