Guys, why do you do it? What are you hoping to gain?
basically, I'm feeling very confused, and frustrated by a guy that I like, due to his behaviour.
we've been friends for two years, he actually asked me to have coffee with him soon after we met, however I didn't go as I felt that I barely knew him. Since then, he had a girlfriend, and they broke up last July.
we became kind of close again after that, and he confided in me how he was feeling down after the break up.
After a little while, he started to show signs of interest, such as lots of eye contact, prolonged conversations, smiling a lot at me, messaging me straight after seeing me, sometimes just to tell me how nice it was to see me after an event.
I was 100% sure he was interested, and so were a few mutual friends.
I tried to show interest back to him, continuing eye contact, smiling, talking to him, responding to his messages, and sometimes initiating too, inviting him to our house for dinner, and even cooking meals for him during the week.
I've been considering telling him that I like him, however have been confused by his recent hot and cold behaviour...
He often initiates messaging, however rarely replies to my response, or only replies 4 or more days later, and the same if I initiate messaging.
last week, I didn't go to an event, then he messaged me to say he noticed my absence, I wrote back to him, but he only replied once more, then I didn't hear from him.
then I saw him last week when a group of us went to a movie, and he was very keen to see me, trying to help me carry my things, and wanting to talk to me a lot. Then two nights ago, I came and joined a conversation he was in with another guy, and he left the conversation less than a minute after I joined it, then about 10 minutes later, he came and joined another conversation I was in with another male friend.

I've noticed that I'm guilty of telling that to guys when the feeling isn't mutual; yet I hate to be told that by someone that I liked. We're all wasting our words with that line. We know good and well that the person receiving that line does not want to hear that bull! To them, being "happy" would consist of us being with them rather than us rejecting them. Why do we make things this complicated by using excuses like "I want you to be happy"? Just wondering...

This guy I have a lot of history with is currently with another girl. Before he started dating her he told our mutual friend that my parents would have never accepted him and that was really important for him. He also said he has been single for a long time and really wants to have a stable relationship. He is currently dating her and posts all sorts of pictures of them together, posting about how awesome she is, etc. It makes me think he is in love with her and has completely moved on but then he will do weird things whenever he sees me. He'll keep telling me how cute she is (he wants us to continue to be friends), insist on showing me some of the things she texts him, and try to compare us, he reacts and gets upset whenever another guy hits on me in front of him, and he stares at me sometimes when he thinks I don't notice. They have been dating for about a month now and she is totally infatuated with him based on the things she posts (she added me on Facebook, telling me she has heard all about me from him -_-). What I'm trying to figure out is if he is also infatuated with her and simply likes to make jibes at me/ so in love with her that he wants to let me know as well since we're friends. Or if there is a possibility that he still has some feelings for me..? What does everyone honestly think?

I live in Nevada, and him in North Carolina. We've talked about meeting up some day and I really want it to happen (I feel like he isn't sure it'll happen within a year or so) which is fine, as long as we're together I'll wait as long as I have to , to be with him. If any of you have been in a long distance relationship, I have a few questions that I'd be ecstatic to hear your answers in the comments/opinions :)

2. Did you grow apart and that's how you broke up? (Lately, we have talked for about 5 minutes each day, which I hate. We do get to talk practically 24/7 on weekends, but my week kind of sucks when I don't really get to talk to him at all)

5. How long did you last?
6. Are you still together?

*I guess I kind of 'spam' him with messages telling him to have a good day, I'll talk to him whenever is possible, I love him, he's perfect etc. Sometimes his phone isn't even on so he doesn't read them at all. Should I stop doing that, and just say Good morning and wait until he replies?*

Okay, so I met this guy about a year ago. He's a real sweetheart. We have only seen eachother in person but when we were together, he followed me around like a puppy dog. We met at his brothers bonfire party. The first day I met him, we hung out the entire time. Talked about quite a lot. He even showed his sensitive side by confiding in me about his ex whom just recently left him. About 5 months passed before I saw him again. But as soon as I got to the party, he ran right up to me and acted as if we hadn't missed a beat. He's your typical country boy. Works full time managing a farm. Drives the box body trucks. Dresses in blue jeans, flannels, and work boots. Im into this type of thing! lol thats why I am telling you. Now my question.. He wants me to go hang out with him this weekend and wants me to be his date to his friends birthday party. I find myself really attracted to this guy in more ways then one. But the thing is, I am scared shitless. He is the only guy who has ever been able to break down this wall I've had built up for years. Everytime I hear his text notification come through my phone, my heart instantly starts pounding and I get the biggest smile on my face. And then, I find myself waiting around for him to text again. Here's where it gets tricky, I have heard nothing good about this guy. Everyone tells me to watch out. he's not good for me. He has an attitude problem. He will hurt me. Etc. But yet, to me he doesn't seem to possess any of them qualities. He even gets upset with himself when they is any slight indication that he may have upset me. What should I do?
