This situation is killing me inside and it kills me even more that I can'tdo anything about it. I need your guys help.

I moved to the other side of the country for school for a year. I recently started liking my friend and we have been best friends for like a year and a half Anyways, we talk almost everyday and she told me she met a guy that is my age and is taking some masters at a university. Me, I'm just taking a diploma at a college. So the problem is that I have a month till i get back home for the summer and she met this guy 3-4 days ago and they have been talking. we have such a good connection and i have no idea if she likes me or not but now that she told me that she met a guy and they're talking, I feel like stopping, or to put it in better words i feel like there's no point of me trying to be with her cuz as fsr as i know she sees me as a friend so im just gonna give up. Basically not even gonna try anymore cause 1. I can't compete with him and 2. I dont like competition when it comes to relationship. So what in the world do I do? Should I help her out wit him and be a good friend or should I keep trying?

Will I she find me more attractive if I fight for her or will she see me as a friend still?

Recently I started liking my bestfriend, but the problem is that we are not compatible. I'm a sports guy, I like the outdoors and I also like playing boardgames and staying up late hanging out with friends. In the other hand, she doesn't like boardgames, she is not into sports but she will try them here and there, she doesn't like staying up late. She is very different from me but for some reason that I can't even answer myself, I like her a lot, and I could picture us dating. she's an amazing woman, I want the best for her and I care about her so much, and we always have a great time when we hang out, but... again, we are not compatible in many different ways.

What would you do if you werein my position? Would you date that person or seeing how different you both are would you rather not ruin the friendship? This brings me to the real question..

How important is compatibility in a relationship?

I'm sure this happens all the time, but I'm just curious if its often that happens or not so often. I recently started thinking about my best friend lots and I had no idea why. Also, I started telling her how i wanted the best for her because she was special and beautiful, I even said any guy would be lucky to be with you. I said those things without realizing that I liked her and now I know I like her but she's so innocent she didn't catch the hint when i said those things to her lol. We have been close friends for like 2 years and I never felt that way towards her and I know the right thing to do is to tell her how I feel but that is NOT the question I'm asking here..

Have you out of ever liked a close/best friend all of a sudden after having 2 or more years of friendship?
