They were still Americans just like the other side they were fighting against.

They did what they thought was in their own best interest.

Even though the Confederate soldiers were fighting for the side that openly wanted to protect slavery, they were still American.

And even though they may have fought for the wrong side to be supporting in history, many of them were still just fighting in defense of themselves.

Its no secret or conspiracy that the Federal Troops did invade the South, and that they burned entire cities down and did some other very awful things. Including killing slaves and raping them.

Which is why I believe that many Southerners were likely fighting in what they viewed as defense of themselves, family and community.

And it wasn’t even a racial issue.

After all even though there is no official record of black soldiers ever officially being pensioned, there were still isolated reports from Union soldiers of having encountered them. So there likely still was a noticable amount of volunteers that weren’t getting paid. And Frederick Douglas once even warned Lincoln about his concern for black support behind the other side.

Either way I am still personally opposed to the Civil War and I wish that the North sought a more peaceable solution.

If they had put all sorts of Economic pressure on the South than they would have eventually been forced to give up slavery, just like every other country on the face of planet earth has done.

So in that sense I do support the South because the North started an unnecessary war that killed more Americans than all of America’s other wars combined leading up to the early 2000’s in Iraq.

And with knowledge of other past events in our history, many of the Vietnamese that fought against us in war weren’t fighting in support of Communism, but what they viewed as defense of themselves.

After all once the war in Vietnam had ended they decided to return to a capitalistic style economy whilst keeping the system.
