I am completely obsessed with the exact vibe, texture, and creative energy of late 90s and early 2000s music videos. When you turn on a music video today in 2026, they almost all look completely flat, lifeless, and plagued by super-clean 4K resolution and empty, digital colors. The older ones are just absolutely beautiful, vibrant, and bursting with creativity. All of our modern cameras are 4K and 8K now, so it makes no sense why music videos shot thirty years ago look so much better. Are production teams nowadays just lazy, or is the technology itself making things look worse?

How can someone actually achieve and recreate that specific look today? Old music videos have this wild paradox where the image looks incredibly smooth and soft, yet the colors and details are sharp and pop right off the screen. What is the actual trick behind it? Is it a specific professional camera from that era that you need to buy, or is it all engineered in the editing room?

I would love for the directors, cinematographers, and editors in the community to give me some real explanations. What are the key steps, lighting techniques, or camera setups needed to break away from this boring, sterile 4K look and bring that classic, rich texture back to life?

What do you think is the biggest trick to recreating that iconic, beautiful 90s/2000s music video look today?

I just watched the most recent one, and they're getting worse and worse.

The first one broke grounds being the first animated film of its kind, with the toys all playing a big roll.

The second one was action packed and kept you on the edge of your seat.

Number 3, was a great action comedy and good conclusion to Andy's story arc and it should have ended right there.

Number 4, was plane dumb and made me depressed, and by this point, the other main toys had become cameos in their own movie.

Number 5, I watched last night, and it made me depressed. The message I thought was great, but the "plot" was all over the place, with so many random elements. A "villain" was practically non-existent and the other toys' rolls had been reduced even more and Woody had become a secondary character in his own movie.

The two 20 minute mini-films were better than the last two movies.

Don't even get me started on the "Lightyear" spin-off

For those who might not be familiar with the name, AZ (Anthony Cruz) is a hip-hop legend out of Brooklyn, New York. He famously burst onto the scene in 1994 as the only featured guest artist on Nas's multi-platinum masterpiece Illmatic, delivering an iconic, unforgettable verse on the track "Life's a Bitch." He is easily one of the dopest, illest, and absolute greatest emcees in the history of the rap game, yet he rarely gets the mainstream recognition or attention he truly deserves.

One of the most remarkable things about AZ is just how incredibly smooth his voice is whenever you hear him talking or rapping. He is a deeply introspective, classy, distinguished, and calculated dude. Throughout his entire career, you have never heard of any weird stuff or internet beefs surrounding his name. He is a solid individual who has always carried himself like a real man with pure integrity, and you can instantly hear that in his voice. Even today, he still rocks a tight, classic fade; he isn't wearing tight clothes, rocking female hair extensions, or chasing trends. He is just calm, confident, and completely secure in his own skin without feeling the need to impress anyone.

Beyond the music, he always brought an effortless smoothness and classic, sharp fashion sense to the culture, standing out as a genuinely good-looking, sharp-dressed man. It makes you wonder why you don’t see young rappers with that kind of authentic swag and style anymore. When you compare him to the rap game today, the contrast is wild. Instead of that natural, mature presence, you catch young new rappers nowadays with absolutely no individual style, all dressed exactly the same like clones, and relying on internet antics rather than lyrical craft.

Do you feel like the art of the smooth, high-integrity lyricist with real style has been completely lost in modern hip-hop, or do you think AZ's blueprint is simply too unique to ever be duplicated?

I didn’t watch the MTV Video Music Awards this year, but the word around the internet is that it was completely boring, with rumors that ratings dropped to an all-time low. Personally, it comes down to a total lack of genuine star power. Back in the day, the front rows were packed with actual A-list megastars like Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears, Eminem, and Beyoncé who made the show a must-see event. Nowadays, it feels like they just let anybody into these award shows, whether you're a reality TV contestant from Love Island or a random internet streamer. The barrier to entry is completely gone, which completely waters down the prestige.

I think the root of the problem is that we are just too overexposed to celebrities now. They go live constantly and post personal videos and photos of their daily lives on social media. If I can see you on my phone every single day, I’m not going to scour an award show to see what you're really like. On top of that, the new artists they push these days simply do not compare to the older generation. A lot of the true legends have gotten older or passed away, leaving us with a product that feels mediocre.

Did the VMAs completely lose their cultural relevance and unpredictability, or are we just getting older?

What do you think is the main reason why modern music award shows feel so boring and unappealing?

I've been seeing a massive amount of drama online following the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards tonight, where Madonna took home the biggest honor of the night by winning Artist of the Year. A lot of people are completely outraged and insist she shouldn’t have won it, saying the trophy should have absolutely gone to a newer artist who is defining this generation instead of a legacy act.

Madonna ended up dominating the entire night and winning seven trophies total. During the broadcast, I noticed this female artist named PinkPantheress—who I guess is one of the newer stars out right now—looking visibly upset with tears in her eyes and looking incredibly disappointed on camera.

The general consensus among critics is that this award should have gone to a newer, defining artist of the current generation. Mainstream nominees like Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, or even a rising breakout star had massive cultural years and arguably pushed the daily music landscape forward much more than a legacy act. Many are arguing that giving the top slot to a veteran who debuted over 40 years ago feels like the music industry is safely leaning into nostalgia and star-chasing instead of elevating the future of pop music. Instead, a lot of corners of the internet are claiming the entire award show was rigged to favor old star power, and people are even attacking how Madonna looks, talking crazy saying it’s not the 1980s anymore and that she’s simply too old to be sweeping these awards over the youth.

What do you all think about this? Do you think the VMAs were rigged to hand Madonna a legacy victory, or do you think her massive Confessions II comeback era genuinely earned her the title of Artist of the Year? Was it right for newer stars like PinkPantheress to feel passed over, or are people just hating on the Queen of Pop because of her age?

Have you got your Holiday/PTO/Annual Leave/Day Off/Sick Off/Sick Leave/ Parental Leave/ Maternal Leave booked for the release day?

My body is ready

I have never thought Cardi B was actually talented, and I don't understand how people support her. Her career feels built around constant controversy, being loud, obnoxious, and disrespectful—like when she called a 4-year-old a "bitch" on live video over a game.

To me, a true rapper needs clever wordplay, vocal delivery, a distinct tone, and the ability to tell a story or exude genuine passion. Her music lacks that. Her live performances don't move me at all. At the iHeartRadio Music Festival, Ciara put on a vastly superior show, while Cardi relied on a trashy outfit showing off her coochie and BBL which looked terrible. I saw her BET Awards performance too, and it wasn't good at all; she had to use a stripper pole just to distract everyone from her lack of stage presence and talent.

I think labels just view her as highly marketable to keep pushing her. Do you feel the same way, or do you view her as a real star?

Brock Lesnar has been officially retired from WWE for nearly two months now. Do you miss "The Beast Incarnate"?

I know he was a part-timer who only showed up sporadically if he was advertised to be on either Raw, SmackDown, or pay-per-views, or even for those shock surprise returns when he took a few years' layoff. But one thing about Brock is that whenever he actually appeared, he always brought an unmatched level of realism and legitimacy to the product, and he was always incredibly entertaining to watch. He kicked ass and didn’t play games with anyone in that ring.

Whether he was throwing people across the ring or completely tearing up the script, his presence made the show feel must-see and unpredictable in a way that modern television deeply struggles to replicate. Now that he has permanently walked away from the squared circle, his absence leaves a massive void on the roster.

What do y'all think? Does the weekly product feel like it's missing that major threat level without him around, or have you already moved on from the Beast era?
