I am having huge flatmate issues.

(I apologize; it's quite long and ranty but would LOVE your opinion/advice)

He rarely cleans, he rarely packs or unpacks the dishwasher and he pretty much never wipes the stove or the bench after he's messed it up. I'm OK with a bit of mess but hoarding all my glasses in his room crosses the line. As does having to wake up and scrub the bench of last night's dinner (his dinner, not mine) that has since been caked onto the bench.

Before we moved in together, I made it clear that I was moving out from my other house because my other flatmate kept me awake and didn't clean. I emphasised these were important things and he said he was fine with that.

Anyway, I have glandular fever (mono for my US buds) and am struggling to do much. For those who haven't had it, you are basically exhausted all the time and need sleep. I have told him that its really important that I get a decent nights sleep, particularly at the moment.

On top of the non cleaning issue, he has been bringing his girlfriend over EVERY NIGHT for the last 6 weeks. She doesn't even say hello to me unless I specifically emphasise a hello directly at her (ie: Hello JODIE how ARE YOU?"). They keep me up at night because she has a compulsion to yell everything that enters her brain. She woke me up this early morning yelling at my flatmate that she's not going to shut-up and then just as I was almost back asleep she yelled (from 3 rooms away to my flatmate next door) that our house has no personality.

I got a bit cranky, sent a casual message joking that it was lucky that the first bout of yelling woke me up because now I was awake for the second. They left. I went downstairs to make breakfast and was hit with a filthy kitchen that took 40 minutes to clean up. None of the mess was mine and I couldn't use the bench until I had removed their filthy things.

I got quite cranky and told my flatmate (in response to his snide remark about me loving his gf) that what I actually loved was sleep and coming down to a kitchen free of detritus.

Things escalated and he isn't taking me seriously. When I tried to discuss it he said he didn't see the problem and actually giggled at me when I tried to tell him how I felt.

He has since said that I am "being a psycho so its hard to take me seriously" and that "the personal disrespect exhibited in my approach is taken seriously tho" and that it "has damaged our good vibe with this bs".

I really want to know whether I am being unreasonable or not. I obviously feel that I am justified in wanting a bit of respect in my home and wanting a clean house. However, I am willing to be persuaded otherwise.

When I asked if he wants to try and sort it out he replied that he's had enough of this for one day and would speak to me "later in the week".

If you DO think I'm overreacting, how should I have handled it, so I know for future.
