Lets say you have a Bachelors and she has a Masters, for example.

My brother is 23 and has a Bachelors degree, and he is really interested in a woman who has a Masters (I'm not sure what field, though). I know she's interested in him as well, but he's hesitant to pursue anything with her because he feels like he is not smart enough for her, especially since she's now a PhD candidate. She is the same age, 23. I told him to stop worrying about all of that that and to just go out with her and have fun.

Is it common for a guy to feel that way? Have you been in this position?

I happen to enjoy debates on philosophy (which of course crosses into the socially unsafe realms of religion and politics), not because I enjoy arguing itself, but because I consider these ideas to be of the highest importance. Therefore, I like to know that I thoroughly understand all sides of an issue and also where I stand on it at all times. The best way to sharpen's one's ideas and correct one's misconceptions is by hearing what people of opposing viewpoints have to say.

I have recently been in a debate with a guy friend with whom I flirt occasionally. After the first few length exchanges, we both agreed that we liked debating things with each other, though we have completely opposite viewpoints. He is very deeply grounded in his opinions, and though I am deeply grounded also, I am always actively seeking reasons that I should consider changing my ideas. I am a theist capitalist and he is an atheist left-wing libertarian.

All was fine and dandy until he sent me a video...that is frankly, completely unresearched, not factually based, and is thinly masked propaganda.

In fact, I thought it was a joke at first, because it was so ridiculous. Yet when I learned that he - a very smart and traditionally logical person - actually believed this garbage, I tried to indicate my concerns for the integrity of the research through a list of contradictions, made-up words/facts, and downright historical/scientific falsehoods.

Yet, he dismisses my points as irrelevant, because (circular logic) how the statements in the movie seem to explain everything perfectly. I acknowledge that the presentation seems fluid, but can't be taken seriously, because the research was done by amateurs who got several things clearly wrong, and can therefore their hypothesis cannot be supported if their research shows these obvious signs of being compromised.

I don't know what to do with this conversation :( I thought it would be a fun way to get to know each other better, but I don't want him to feel like I'm attacking him by trying to prove him wrong. I just can't believe he would fall for BS that is so thinly masked, because he's normally so smart and meticulous about ideas and backing them up rationally!

Guys, how would you feel if you were in this guy's position, and what would be best for the girl [me] to do?

So what do you girls/guys think?

Should I just agree to disagree?

Continue to try and dissuade him from this madness?

Become nebulous in my opinion, allowing him to wonder if he's convinced me or not, and change the subject?
