So I'm friends with a girl who seems to have a LOT of trouble finding guys. She's always so picky. He has to be this, that and the other thing. She's very strict. A lot of guys consider her a gold digger/social climber.

She befriended someone who was REALLY inappropriate and exposed her to me and my family to the point that I had to stop and talk with her about it. No apologies for it and I'm still left cleaning up a mess on my end for associating with that other girl.

Anyway, she was two hours late meeting up with me yesterday at a major event. I was there on my own and embarrassed as h*ll. When she finally arrived, it was a full hour after the time I'd had to leave to get home to my family. It was a singles event and I was there for her, but she bailed at the last minute then texted me that *I* had another friend to thank for her agreeing to change her mind and come.

I don't like flip flopping and I don't appreciate having to plan my day around a schedule that deteriorates like a sugar cube just seconds before I'm expected to be somewhere. To add to the embarrassment, this guy I liked was at the event and there I was, standing alone looking ridiculous!

When she got there, I told her she looked lovely and to go in there mingle, have fun, and marry an accountant. It was a joke and I was in a hurry to get home, to get away from the guy, and to get away from that crowd of social leeches.

I get a text from the girl at the end of the night -- long after I'm in bed -- and she claims I insulted her in public and she's embarrassed for me. I made the whole night uncomfortable for her, etc., etc., etc. She claims heads turned because of the comment. I know for a fact that the same heads had been turning all night every time a new person tried to squeeze past the crowd. I know for a fact that NO ONE would have heard us above the din of the music and the steady chatter about stocks, bonds, and how wonderful they are.

She's expecting an apology and I'm able to give one for the comment, though she KNOWS my sense of humor in these circumstances and is most likely just self-conscious that she was now there without me.

NO, I didn't just leave her there. She was there with her brother/chaperone AND with two of our mutual friends. In a bind, she could also have hung out with the guy I like, who is our friend as well. I was the only one who had to stand around solo that night while the rest of them decided whether or not they were even coming, and yet I didn't complain about it and I didn't demand an apology...
