I was discussing this with a friend of mine on here, and he says there's only one form of logic.

The logic he described has to do with mathematical logic, and conclusive logic such as that.

As in, there's only one finalized answer that is more " justified," than any other answer.

I say we have more than one idea of logic than just that one, because people each have a unique way of viewing the world, and " justifying," situations. I've heard many times that experience is a very good way to decipher these different " logics" we have about things.

And if there's only one finalized idea of " logic," then why do we all have such varying conclusions about things? Also, does this mean if one conclusion is more apparent than the other, than the other conclusion is wrong or irrelevant?

My example for this was about the time when African Americans were seen as less than a person. This was the most conclusive logic at that time, the most “ justified,” which the majority of people agreed with and could not disprove. Yet there were people who boldly stood up and provided counter logic against that logic? Why would they do that if this was the finalized and conclusive logic?

Also, young children are pretty much clean slates growing up – why is it that some kids express different aspects of “ logic,” than other children in their same age or grade? Why do we have multiple intelligences such as linguistic logic, musical logic, artistic logic, mathematical logic? And why are some people “ better,” at certain aspects of logic? Why is it that a mathematically gifted person can decipher math language so well, but struggles to understand the logic in linguistics?

I can say that we all have that deductive logic – which is you know, you see a blue ball, the ball is obviously blue – and that can’t be denied because it’s clear as day to see. (Unless, you want to argue which shade of blue, which brings forth those varying logics again.)

I can conclude that the ball is Royal blue because it matches my Royal blue shirt lol, but you can say its misty blue because when you look at it closely, the pigments appear lighter.)

So who’s right? Who’s logically correct in the case of the shade of the blue ball?

Also the definition of logic is: Reasoning conducted or assessed according to strict principles of validity: Key word here being “ validity.”



I say with all our different logical perspectives except the finalized deductive logic – our ideas of what is “ valid” can be quite subjective to the individual.

Anyway – what do you intelligent people think? Is there only one

true logic? Or several?

What defines logic for you?

Can logic even be truly defined beyond deductive logic? ( Is there a definite “ truth” outside of that?)
