We ended sort of mutual, mostly him leaving me though. Anyway we were still friends but it hurts way too much. I wrote this letter, let me know what you guys think. He has a girl he is almost in a relationship with.

Dear *******,

I don't think I can be friends. At least not right now, and probably not for a while. I guess I just have too many issues and not enough experience with heartache. I love you and I hate that I'm writing it in an e-mail, but I already lost my chance to properly tell you in person. I'm sorry I keep adding this extra drama to your life, I just have a hard time letting you go which is why I need to cut you out for a while. I want you to be happy and I feel like I am not benefiting anyone when I send you all these texts about how sad I am. It isn't helping me and it isn't helping you. I will be fine, it's just another lemon in life. I'm still glad I've gotten to be close to you. Thank you for everything and for being there. I'm not saying this is the last time I'm going to talk to you, but I need to be away for a long while. Not just a while because I have found that a while isn't very long for me. You looked really happy in your picture hiking with *****, I hope you both treat each other well.

Should I send it? I already blocked and deleting him from everything. So I will be e-mailing this to him. I am ready to move on, but I don't think I can without cutting him out for a while. Thanks.

My ex and I are from different countries (really different culture), and we had our relationship while we both were study aboard (another country). He broke up with me shortly after I left, saying that the future of us being together is too little. We agreed to stay friends until he also went back to his country and stopped contact me.
Some months later he contacted me again as he went back to where we met continuing his study. The "friendship" this time lasted for about a year. It began well but with time we started to had argument cause he felt I wasn't invested enough. Until once we had a huge fight, and we stopped our daily calls and so.
Two months later I contacted him and explained the "friendship" was stressing me out and the only way I could keep doing it is that we resume how we were, like an official couple.
We resumed contact and talked about the future. A month later he started to get busier with his work and we had little time to talk. I could feel that he was pulling away and later he told me we need to stop doing this as it will hurt more in the future as our chance of being together is really low.

Now, as much as I see how difficult it was to keep it going (none of us can quit what we're doing now, and leaving your friends/family and go to live in another country and be dreadful.), I still wonder if it's true that "Someone who really loves you will never let you go." Or really, sometimes, letting go is the best choice?
