There's a guy from my past - a year or two back - whom I was very close with. We'd spend time together almost everyday and tell each other everything. We weren't dating, but we weren't just friends. It's complicated - due to reasons I don't want to mention. Anyway, this guy suddenly cuts me off and stops talking to me. I'd initiate contact and ask if we could hang out but he'd make excuses not to see me. Eventually, we lost touch and he disappeared into thin air. I went to his workplace, but his office was empty and his boss told me he'd left the city.

I moved on after some struggle, but now - after about a year or longer - he's trying to dig his way back into my life. He suddenly e-mailed me out of the blue (I blocked him on my phone), asking me how I am and if we could have "coffee". All I could reply was that he really hurt me and that I'd have to think about whether I want him back in my life. He told me he's "sorry" and that he "was going through a rough time and lost touch with everyone". Well, I was going through a rough time too after two people in my life passed away as well as lost about what I was doing academically with my life, and he wasn't there for me. So, I really don't know if I can ever forgive him.

But I also feel like that's not fair... I don't know. "Virtually" speaking (sorry, I'm a Phil major lol), I feel like it's okay to forgive him but emotionally, he basically left me in the dark to rot, so I don't know...

My best friend says I should have coffee with him just to hear what he has to say and get an explanation/apology. I don't even know if I should do that.
