Search Results: can a girl ask a guy to hangout

The semester ends in 2 weeks. I told her I liked her and left her with my number and that was 3 days ago and I haven't heard anything. I see her looking at me often, I talked to her about this and she hasn't stopped. She looks away everytime I see her and doesn't smile when she's looking. She initiated conversation with me only one time, and she clammed up so bad and couldn't even look at me at all. However, when I initiate with her, she will give me her full attention and immediately smile, but tries to keep eye contact but can't. This is very much the opposite of how she is with everyone. I'm the only one she's shy around. I don't even know if she likes me but I really feel like she does.

The problem is that I've tried talking to her and have gotten no where, she just seems awkward around me. I gave her my number and she hasn't tried contacting me. I'll only see her 3 more times and then the semester ends. We aren't friends, I've talked to her 5 times but I've seen her trying to get my attention many times. I feel like she is awkward and has no idea what to do with guys she likes, and I act the same way around her. I really want to make something happen but don't know how. I can't ask her to hangout because that's just even more awkward. I really don't know what to do in this situation.

Personally, I think it can work as long as both individuals are mature and especially if they discuss the possibility of dating together. I have a couple female friends. My oldest female friend (BFFs for 4+ years) I was/am attracted to. Then I realized we'd be better off as friends due to a couple of reasons (religion mainly and looking for different things in relationships). But as time went on, I totally friend-zoned her because she's an awesome person. Now she's dating a guy that's great for her and I'm happy, though maybe a little jealous. Not because I want to date her but because we don't get to hangout as much :(

I can say with a straight face that if she asked me out, I would say no. And if she tried to sleep with me (she's not that kind of girl, strongly in the wait-til-marriage camp), I would turn her down.

I've known people who swore that guys and girls can never be friends because one person will fall for the other. But for me, once dating is no longer a possibility and since I've never been one to randomly hookup, it's like flipping a switch in how I see the other person. I made lots of friends by approaching people at school/in public who I think are cute, and then befriending them if dating isn't an option or something I want to pursue. Even met my ex this way. The way I see it with approaching them is that best case it's a long-term relationship or a solid friendship, worst-case they look at me funny then forget about it in 5 minutes. What do you think?

Tl;dr I think yes as long as both people are emotionally mature and address the elephant in the room.
