Search Results: meet new friends online

We have a history. We've been online friends for 8 months. We live 6 hours away but haven't been able to meet because of school and work. At first he told me he had a small crush on me but as time went on he told me he sees me as a friend. Okay. I get that. Then recently I started to go on dates and I told him about my date since he's my friend. Whenever I tell him he's short in messages, doesn't give advice or anything and just asks when I see him again. If it was flipped around I would be jealous but I want him to be happy. So I would be excited about it and offer advice. He recently told me that a cute girl started working with him! I got jealous but excited for him. So I kept telling him to talk to her and I joked that he wouldn't be needing me since he'll have her. He told me that he doesn't want to get close to someone new all over again and that no girl could ever erase me from the picture. He's really close to me and he doesn't want to have to get close to another girl for a while. So their is that... What do you guys think?

I feel like it's ridiculous for me to count my ex "relationship" as a relationship, since:
1- I never met the guy in real life.
2- We never called
3- We barely video-chatted (like barely twice).
4- It lasted for about 7 months only.
5- It was almost 100% sure it would lead to nothing ( very big distance, too many cultural differences).

I think it mostly depends on the people in it though , many people manage to keep it for more than a year, and are really into it and have legit plans to meet up and eventually move to the other's country (and they put a lot of effort in it to make it seem more real, like calling and video-chatting frequently).

If I ever think about getting into a new one, it has to be REALISTIC as in: Closing the distance within a year, regular phone calls etc... Which I might do with this new guy since we come from the same country (much easier to meet up during vacations when we're both home).

I think that if I ever mention it as a relationship to another guy he might find it funny, lame and ridiculous... I know that my friends do at least lol they say it's not even a relationship and I shouldn't mention it. I kinda agree with them but I want your opinion on it. :)
