I've recently came across this argument that people believe that "strict parents" is just an excuse for people to lie just because they don't like the rules. Yes, some people do that, but the majority of the time the people actually had overly strict parents.
There are numerous studies that prove that being overly strict makes you children no trust, keep secrets, and creates almost pathological liars.

I am proof that strict parents create liars. I constantly had to lie to my parents because they gave me no choice or freedom to be myself. I don't lie now, but I have to become an entirely different person like an actress when I speak to my parents.

To be honest it's better to be your child's friend and reinforce the law when needed than to just be an emotionless disciplinary unit. If you just want to be bad cop, your children will hide things from you because they don't trust you enough to tell you the truth. They won't even share their day with you in fear of a scolding lecture coming out of it.

But at the end of the day I'm glad I had overly strict parents because I have learned how not to be a piece of shit.
Anyways what do you think upon this subject?
