Long story short. Met the most amazing girl through a mutual friend. Spent three weeks of unending conversation about heavy and deep topics that we are both very passionate about. Finally went on a date with her. We had five hours of unyielding conversation. The number of things we share interests in unprecedented. I've never connected intellectually with someone like this. And for all the serious conversation, we can be absolute goofs with one another.


The issue is, when I called her for a second date, she brought up the fact that he ex was trying to get back with her and it was confusing her. This confused me because he lives in Canada. No more than 8 hours away, but still, kind of silly to me. She still has feelings for him, but she also thought she was done with him. She didn't want to go back, but she wasn't sure.


So I told her it wasn't fair for either of us, especially me to be some sort of side item if she isn't over her ex. So I said I would give her some time and space to figure it out. But if it was going to be me, he had to be completely out of the picture. She agreed, appreciated my understanding and support and said she should "know soon" as to what she is going to do with the ex.


A lot of dating advice forums would give the advice: "give up, run away, don't waste your time, etc." However, that is not what I want to do. Maybe they are right. But again, I've never had a connection quite like this. I know that connection is mutual, she told me so. However, I completely understand how old loves can still have a hold of us. I've been there myself.


So what do I do? I'll give her space. I've taken our talking of multiple times a day to zero conversation for the last three days. I"m not sure when I should reach out again? Is there anything I can do? What should I do?
