A friend of friends has moved back to the US from Australia. Now people have told me he's hilarious, he's sweetie, they like him better than his siblings, etc. By rights, he sounds like a good guy. I like the siblings so no issue there.

But the four times I've sort of met him in passing I haven't been impressed. He hasn't done anything offensive, it's not like he looks/dresses like a bum, etc. Yes I should get to know him at least before making decisions but they say trust 'gut instinct'.

Now I'm someone who gives people the benefit of the doubt until they do something that crosses lines anyway so the 'troublemaker' dub isn't a factor. I go off 'instinct' more as I have got a very good judge of character.

And the two times I've encountered him I haven't been impressed.
Thing is, we haven't said a word to each other. I am just going off observations. He hasn't actually done anything offensive (hasn't been rude), he isn't threatening, and he dresses decent enough. There's nothing that easily comes to mind... I just him a bit off-putting.

So am I being too judgmental or not?

It's an old saying - a drunk man's words (/actions) are a sober man's thoughts. The same applies to gals, ladies. So I wanna give a scenario.

Imagine - guys & gals - you're at a pub. At the bar itself (or at a table, wherever you're alone).
You've had a few to drink - not enough to be hammered but enough to feel a buzz.
A guy (or gal) you know from college, community event, etc., whatever comes into the pub.
Sees you & because they recognize you decides to (or asks if they can) sit beside you.
You've always thought they were attractive but haven't had a chance to act on those thoughts.
You guys start chatting maybe another drink or two.
Ok.
