There is this girl that is 27 and I am 25. Also, she is Korean and I am caucasian. We both work in healthcare. For several months she will text me at random times asking how I am doing. These are here initiations of conversation. I recently went to New York and she texted me how I was doing there and how coronavirus was there. Three days ago, I texted her how she was doing and before I could get a follow up four word text out of my phone she responded. I have asked her about her dating life several months ago and she responded that she did not want to date anyone because of her religion. And when I ask to hang out, she has other things to do. I know she is extremely shy and socially awkward, she has told me this. Furthermore, I doubt she has ever dated any guy before, which is fine with me as I have not dated a lot of girls. It just seems like I get a lot of mixed signals from her, considering she initiates the majority of conversations. I would initiate more but because of the mixed signals I get discouraged and I am not going to act desperate. Furthermore, I am not willing to limit myself to a person that may/may not want to date me and if a girl comes along, I will not concern myself with her.

My friend got this girls number at a party. He was drunk at the time and got really nervous about calling the girl when he became sober. He was going to ghost her but I talked him out of it and helped him come up with what to say. I thought that was me having his back. So fast forward... are you ready for this lol...

Fast forward a YEAR later and he tells me his is thinking about calling that girl and asking her out. I tell him he has no chance and good luck with that. A year later lol. The opportunity is definitely gone. She probably forgot about it like 10 months ago.

So then he just says "alright" and a little later he makes up a story about how he needs a new phone. That story was his cover so that he could ghost me. He hasn't returned my texts in months.

I think that's really shitty of him. I think he is a coward and a piece of garbage really. I had his back and helped him so he didn't just ghost her. He wouldn't even have a shot at all if it wasn't for my advice. I mean was I out of line? I never want to talk to him again anyway but the fact that I am the one who had his back and he just didn't see it is ridiculous.

So should I have just lied to him and told him to go for it? At what point is being a good friend someone who is honest and at what point is it just lying and telling them what they obviously want to hear?
