What does it mean to you when they say she's (or he's) wise beyond her/his years?

Basically how do you feel about girls who prefer deep or introspective and intellectual conversation over small talk? Maybe they could be considered a "nerd" because their immense appetite for learning, researching or studying (Jungian psychology).
I'm not saying people who prefer small talk over deep convo less intelligent.

Just what makes you feel about a girl who's considered "smart"?

With an endless supply of movies to watch these days, we're often drowning in cliches, seeing the same moments over and over... seeing the same endings over and over.
One cliche is the "ambiguous ending". We've all seen them, those that leave us saying, "Huh?" Or maybe we're left spouting our theories, or arguing with our friends.
Some say these kinds of endings are lazy, and sometimes even cowardice. They're too afraid to commit to any ONE explanation for fear of the criticism it'll receive, so they just let the audience decide.
Others say these kinds of endings are insightful, inspiring genuine thought and conversation... relying on the intelligence of the audience to put the pieces together and essentially write the ending themselves.

What do you think?
Lazy?
Cowardice?
Intelligent and inspiring?

Also, what are some of your favorite ambiguous endings, ones that had you thinking/talking all night?
