Search Results: paying for the first date

My friend and I have known each other for little under a year - His family stays roughly 8 hours away so he tends to visit them often when we are on holiday.. I haven't seen him for about 2 months because he has been with his family over the holidays although we talk every day. He is coming home this week, and we are going to see each other the night he arrives home. We ended up having an argument over what we are going to do, as I wanted to chill by him since I am broke and he wants to go out for supper, which we've never done before, together. Eventually I told him why I didn't want to go out (because of money) and he told me that I mustn't be silly because he was planning on paying for me anyway but we dont have to go crazy if it will make me uncomfortable.. I at first felt like he just didn't want to hang out after not seeing me in forever, and wanted to get by with just a quick drin, but that was then explianed that it isn't only a drink, but that we will go out and do something and that he never sees anyone the day he comes home because he is tired and his apartment hasn't been lived in for months etc.

So, my question is: Why is he making the exception to see ME.
My friend believes this is a date without him calling it a date.. but I only see it as friends going out for supper and a few drinks?

Yes, I am into him. Always have been. And he has admitted to having feelings for me, but months ago and hasn't brought it up again.
