So back when I was 16, we were at my ex-girlfriend's home, and she was having trouble picking out clothes for our first date. And she picked out a flowy, navy blue dress, that was about mid-thigh length. And she had decided that was what she was wearing to our date. And I was like, "It's nice, but isn't it a little short?" And she was like, "That's why we wear spandex shorts under these, silly."

And that logic stuck with me.

However, my current girlfriend (I'm 18 now), a few weeks ago, to our date wore a light blue dress, of about the same length as my ex-girlfriend's. Then when we went to her home after the date, she asked me what I thought of her new dress. I said it was a bit short, but extremely pretty. And I commented, "Good thing you had on shorts underneath, though."

Then she burst out laughing, and I asked her what's so funny, and she said she never wears shorts under her dresses. I asked her if it's not too risky, and she said no, since she knows how to sit and move in dresses, and only wears dresses when she knows she won't be climbing stairs or anything in the first place. She also said that shorts under dresses are really uncomfortable and take away the purpose completely.

Just basically, I had 2 girlfriends with completely different views on the subject. And there's nothing wrong with that, but I'm just wondering what MOST GIRLS typically think.

By saying "yes," you're secretly agreeing with my ex-girlfriend, and by saying "no," you're secretly agreeing with my current girlfriend.

So my girlfriend is rather touchy feely with her best friends, and doesn't mind this kind of stuff at all. She often shoves herself right next to her best friends, as she shows them something funny on her phone.

When her legs touched her friend's legs in jeans, neither my girlfriend, nor her friends even budged.

When her legs touched her friend's legs in shorts, neither of them minded as well. Heck, even in swimsuits they didn't mind!

If it was me and my male friends, in jeans I wouldn't mind, but in shorts and swimsuits I definitely would! Bare skin touching just feels way too personal if you ask me! Not cool! :(

When I brought this up to my girlfriend, she says they're her best friends, and that it really doesn't matter. She also says that it's just skin, that everyone has it, and that there's no shame if her skin touches her friend's skin, especially in hot weather where everyone's wearing shorts anyways. She said that if anything it'd be rude if she DID move away.

I personally disagree with her, but to each their own, I guess.

I couldn't find a good representation picture for option B, but just imagine the girl from option A has jeans covering up her legs, instead of them being bare as they are.

The reason I'm asking this is because jeans/pants underneath a dress has become a trend among-st my female friends who live in my neighborhood.

I live in Florida, whereas it's hot as fuck, and it's hard to get anywhere without sweating... and as such, people wear shorts, and when women wear dresses, they're usually fairly short like the blonde girl's in the photo. Way above the knee, but modest enough to cover the bum very well. Just about that length.

And recently my female neighbor friends decided that their dresses were a bit too short to wear bare legged, and that they feel slightly self conscious... despite the fact that they ALWAYS wore their dresses bare legged much before with no problem. And as such, they started wearing jeans/pants along with their dresses.

And in my honest opinion... it just looks BAD.

Those dresses were made to be worn bare legged in hot weather, and when you pair them with jeans... well it just doesn't look right. The dress just ends up looking like an extremely oversized shirt, rather than an actual dress. It's supposed to be worn on IT'S OWN!

The worst thing about it is that my girlfriend was also sucked into it, and she refuses to ever bear her legs in an above the knee dress again. 🙄🙄🙄

Maybe I'm kind of exaggerating, and this whole trend isn't so bad, and maybe even better than bare legs in a dress after all. Maybe I got so used to seeing bare legs I forgot how immodest they were... who knows. Let's just see what most people say about this topic. Maybe jeans under dresses really IS ridiculous, maybe it's not.
