I had a short dialogue with my landlord.

The dialogue was going with random stuff and then it turned to about my friends reaction when I was dragged from Germany to the East.
Her question was "How did your friends react when you were going to move here from Germany?".
To which I responded "What friends? I don't have any friends 🤷". (aside from some GAG contacts but I was not going to say this).

Then she mentioned, that she used to have 10 friends while her daughter was here. All 10 of them suddenly disappeared as soon as her daughter moved to the US. She (the landlord) was completely forgotten about.

She explained me, that there is a reason why she and I are without any (real life) friends and that she was consulting about it previously. She was told, that it is because of people being envious/jealous of our opportunities. Namely we both can speak >1 languages, can travel in better countries (since I still have my German Passport and she has her VISA extended), are having an academic degree and basically the biggest problems for achieving success have been lifted.

She mentioned, that people don't like it when others are being above them in terms of success and opportunities and that it causes envy and jealousy. Whereas I look for going upwards and respecting everyone worthy of it (not to sound arrogant) instead of having prejudice against successful people.
Now of course I am always thankful for the good people, who helped me going up.

She asked me "What do you think? Is that true or not?"

To which I responded "It could be. I mean there can be other factors too but it does make sense."

So yeah. Now I ask you, the GAG community about it.
